While Pirlo isn’t typically played as a purely defensive midfielder, his defensive stats are surprisingly strong for a player who primarily focuses on creating plays. He consistently makes a lot of interceptions, actively challenges opponents, and completes tackles effectively, making him a much more dependable defender than many realize.
This is Pirlo at his absolute best. Controlling the ball feels incredibly smooth and reliable, and his passing is top-tier. Combining the ‘Visionary Pass’ and ‘Phenomenal Pass’ skills is devastating, as they represent the best passing abilities available in the game.
I think positioning him as a defensive midfielder within Capello’s tactical system is ideal – he’ll be incredibly reliable. While he’s not strong going forward or in the air, that’s not really his role, and he’s not meant to be a goalscorer. Pair him with a taller, more physically imposing midfielder in a double-pivot setup, and you’ve got a winning combination.

Players are excited about this pack because this card is truly outstanding. It’s currently the best defensive running back option, and feels incredibly reliable during gameplay, consistently delivering strong results.
He’s incredibly quick and a real threat against speedy wingers. Once he’s focused on an opponent, it’s extremely difficult to get past him – I know from playing against both his older Juventus card and his current Barcelona version. He’s just a solid defender overall; everything about his game works well.
He’s a consistently dependable player for the entire game, combining strong tackling, physical strength, endurance, and smart positioning. He excels defensively and doesn’t need to join the attack to be a major impact, as his ability to defend alone can control an entire side of the field.
Many people are talking about whether he could play as a Center Back. He’s already doing great with his older Juventus card, and this new version seems like a good improvement. While his Barcelona Center Back card is still considered his best, Aerial ability feels more important for him than tackling from a distance.
This build might feel a little different if you’re used to playing Thuram as a traditional center back. However, even if he’s not in his usual position, he’s still one of the best defenders in the game. I’ve included both center back and right back build options, so you can customize him to fit your preferred playstyle.

Riccardo Ferri

Ferri is a strong choice for a Build Up centre-back, though it’s disappointing he doesn’t have a Showtime skill. However, he excels defensively, boasting impressive speed and acceleration for a centre-back, and his defensive stats are among the best in the game.
He’s a confident one-on-one defender, understands the flow of the game, and stays with attacking players effectively. He’s also solid in the air. It will be interesting to see how he performs against a strong striker like Koller, though that comparison isn’t ideal.
Considering how strong he already is defensively, it makes sense they didn’t add any special abilities. However, Aerial Fort would have been a solid choice. He’s not a top-tier defender, but a reliable option if you need a center-back who can build up play from the back – those types of players are hard to find now, as most defenders focus on simply destroying attacks.
