Okay, so I’ve been playing Dragon Traveler by HongKong GameTree Limited, and it’s a pretty cool 3D RPG. Basically, you jump into this fun isekai world with lots of adventures and, let’s be honest, some really cute characters. I figured I’d share a beginner’s guide with some tips to help you get started and get the most out of the game.
Dragon Traveler Overview
Let’s walk through how the game works. Like Seven Knights Re:BIRTH, it starts with an engaging and funny tutorial that teaches you the fundamentals. As you play, you’ll collect characters called Luminaries and build a team with them.
In battle, you can activate your Luminaries’ powerful Overdrive attacks by dragging their portraits to the correct spots. You can also cancel an Overdrive if needed to conserve points. Plus, when your Luminaries fight, your main character automatically joins the battle and attacks consistently.
Each character has a unique role, so it’s important to position them strategically. For example, Assassins should focus on attacking the enemy Luminary directly across from them, and they can sneak past other Luminaries who aren’t designated as Guardians. Plus, the boss fights are a blast, with really impressive visual effects!
Dragon Traveler Gameplay Basics
Luminary
View all your Luminaries in the Luminary section, where you can also improve them with Star Upgrades. These upgrades boost their stats and talents, and unlock new abilities at certain Star Levels. Reaching level 100 unlocks even more powerful Class Resonance effects.
You’re able to collect multiple Luminaries with the same name. Although each Luminary has its own Star Level, they all share the same overall Level, equipment, and progression systems. Luminaries that are R-grade or higher also belong to two different Factions, with the second Faction becoming available once they reach 6-Star.
To make your characters even stronger, you can awaken those with an SSR rating or higher. Don’t forget to equip them with a complete set of gear – headgear, bracers, chestplate, weapon, accessory, and boots. Also, be sure to check for and activate Luminary Codes to earn free Diamonds.
Protagonist
The character you initially select will participate in combat, and you can transform into powerful Dragon Forms during battles. Each Dragon Form requires a specific Dragon Soul to unlock, and you can improve its stats – like strength, intelligence, and agility – by activating Artifacts and other enhancements.
Your Dragon, named Wyrm, can be leveled up to improve your stats, enhance talents, open Dragon Nests, and add Skill slots. You get Juvenile Dragons using Dragon Souls, and as you strengthen them, they’ll grow into Adolescent Dragons, eventually becoming powerful Mature Dragons.
Summon
The Summon area has two options: Luminary Summon, which is always available, and Limited Summon, where you can try to get the newest Featured Luminary. If you’re looking for tips on getting the best results, check out our detailed Reroll guide.
Game Modes
When you first start, you’ll have access to Adventure mode, where you can collect Diamonds, random Luminaries, Wyrm Essence, and other rewards. As you progress through the Main Story, you’ll unlock additional modes like Champion Expedition, Heart Trial, Mythos Conquest, Training Camp, and many others.
Emporium
The game’s shop, called the Emporium, has three sections: Monthly Card, Summon, and Gift Pack. You can buy Monthly or Lifetime Cards for Diamonds and Summon Tickets, or purchase additional Tickets and items to help strengthen your summons.
Dragon Traveler Beginners Guide: Tips and Tricks
1. Don’t skip the Prologue tutorial
The game starts with a helpful tutorial that introduces you to the basics, including how to use special abilities called Overdrive and strategically place your Luminaries, all while letting you experience the story. It’s important not to skip these introductory sections.
2. Perform your Overdrives smartly
In combat, effectively using your Luminaries’ Overdrive and carefully saving Overdrive Points is crucial for success.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed playing Dragon Traveler! It’s a fun RPG with great visuals, a good sense of humor, and battles that require some strategy. I especially loved using the powerful Overdrive attacks – the animations are fantastic, and that’s why I prefer to play manually instead of letting the game fight for me.
As you unlock characters and new ways to play, and move further in the game, it can become quite challenging. Enemies get stronger and the bosses become more difficult. However, if you follow this guide, you should be able to enjoy a smooth and fun experience.
