It’s unusual to see artwork focused solely on Bulma, and a recently discovered design from 30 years ago is a special treat for fans.
Bulma was one of the very first characters introduced in the Dragon Ball manga, appearing right after Goku. She was key to the early storylines, as she searched for the Dragon Balls and formed a close friendship with the young Saiyan. Although her involvement in the main adventures lessened as the series went on, Bulma remained a beloved character among fans.
Recently, the official Dragon Ball website shared early concept art for a character designed for the Dragon Ball GT anime, which first appeared in 1996.
Dragon Ball Reveals 30-Year-Old Bulma Concept Art for the GT Anime
The sketch depicts Bulma as she appears in the GT anime, with her signature short hair and fashionable accessories like a pearl necklace and triangle earrings.
In Dragon Ball GT, after the battle with Majin Buu, Bulma is depicted as being around 56 years old and enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle with a slightly more mature look. However, the official website points out that she still maintains her signature stylish hair and fashion sense.
The new Dragon Ball Daima is getting attention for turning the Z-Warriors into children as part of its official storyline, but it was actually Dragon Ball GT that first showed Goku as a child – that happened when Emperor Pilaf used a wish to turn him back into a kid.
Bulma’s Legacy Lives On in Dragon Ball GT
Even though Bulma doesn’t have a large role in Dragon Ball GT, she made important technological contributions that were crucial to the heroes’ victories. Most notably, she helped build the spaceship, the Grand Tour, which Goku, Trunks, and Pan used to travel the universe and collect the Black Star Dragon Balls.
Later on, Bulma created the Blutz Wave Generator, a large machine that mimicked the energy of a full moon. This allowed her husband, Vegeta, to transform into his incredibly powerful form.
Bulma consistently saves the day with her intelligence and resourcefulness, rather than physical strength, and her contributions are significant. This was clearly demonstrated when she ranked 13th in a recent global Dragon Ball popularity contest, surpassing characters like Goten, Chi-Chi, Videl, and Master Roshi.
Viewers won’t have to wait long for the return of this brilliant inventor! She’ll be featured in both Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a fresh remake of the Super anime coming Fall 2026, and Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, which adapts the Galactic Patrol Prisoner story arc from the manga.
