Dove Cameron’s Thriller ’56 Days’ Topples ‘Fallout’ on Prime Video

While the second season of Fallout received excellent reviews – earning a 96% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes – it didn’t seem to generate the same excitement as its first season. Despite topping Prime Video’s charts for weeks, the show has now been overtaken by a newer thriller, leaving some fans feeling the recent season quietly concluded.

The new erotic thriller 56 Days quickly gained a following after its February 19th release on Prime Video. Starring Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia, the series is based on Catherine Ryan Howard’s novel of the same name. It tells the story of Ciara and Oliver, who begin a passionate romance after a chance meeting. Just 56 days later, a body is discovered, and detectives suspect a connection to the couple, with the show unraveling the events leading up to the mysterious death.

’56 Days’ Has a Horrifying Origin

These days, whenever a popular true-crime or murder-mystery book does well, it often gets turned into a movie or TV show. With so many options available, and the same people frequently working on different projects, it can be tough to figure out which ones are actually good.

What really makes 56 Days stand out is its connection to James Wan, a leading figure in modern horror. Wan, known for successful and scary films like Saw, Insidious, The Conjuring, and Malignant, consistently delivers both what hardcore horror fans want and films that appeal to a wide audience. Having him produce 56 Days definitely adds to the show’s intensity and appeal, and releasing all eight episodes at once encouraged viewers to binge-watch the entire experience.

In 2021, Cameron was chosen to play Bubbles in a live-action Powerpuff Girls TV series. Chloe Bennet and Yana Perrault joined the cast as Blossom and Buttercup, respectively. Although a pilot episode was filmed, the series faced several challenges. Following the success of shows like Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which reimagined classic characters for a more mature audience, a grown-up version of the Powerpuff Girls didn’t initially seem like a bad idea.

Following the pilot’s filming, The CW decided to revise the show, which led to scheduling problems with the actors. During this process, the pilot script was leaked online, and fans reacted negatively, criticizing the project. Ultimately, a sale of The CW led to the show being canceled. When a trailer finally appeared online, fans were relieved – it confirmed their fears that the series had significant tonal issues, matching the impression given by the leaked script.

The positive reception to 56 Days further demonstrates Cameron’s ability to carry a show, and proves she can succeed in projects with more mature themes.
