Don’t miss BBC’s emotionally-charged trailer for new drama Half Man with Richard Gadd and Jamie Bell

Richard Gadd, the creator of the popular 2024 series Baby Reindeer, is launching a new drama called Half Man on BBC and HBO. A first trailer has just been released, giving viewers a glimpse of the show’s main characters.

This new six-episode drama focuses on the close relationship between two men, Ruben and Niall. Robbie Gadd, who also wrote and produced the series, will star alongside Jamie Bell, known for his roles in All of Us Strangers and Billy Elliot.

The new trailer gives fans a first look at Niall and Ruben in action, hinting at the complicated and emotional connection between them. In the trailer, Niall can be heard saying about Ruben, “He’s the best and the worst thing, all at once.”

The story also features Mitchell Robertson (known for Curfew) and Stuart Campbell (SAS Rogue Heroes), who portray younger versions of the characters Niall and Ruben. The narrative jumps between the 1980s and the present day, gradually revealing the full picture.

The first look at Half Man reveals Neve McIntosh (known for Doctor Who and Shetland) will play Niall’s mother, Lori, and Marianne McIvor (The Bombing of Pan Am 103) will portray Ruben’s mother, Maura.

What to Read Next

The BBC has announced that the documentary Half Man will follow the lives of several men over three decades, examining themes of brotherhood, violence, and the complex nature of male friendships.

So, they dropped some first-look pics, and it looks like things are about to get really interesting. Apparently, my character Ruben is gonna crash Niall’s wedding – and the story says everything just feels…off. I’m guessing it won’t be a happy celebration! I’m excited to see what happens when they finally come face to face.

In a recent interview with GQ, Richard Gadd discussed the themes of his new show. He explained that he wanted to examine the roots of unhealthy masculinity, how it develops, and why men often form such strong bonds with each other. He also touched on the serious consequences that can arise from negative behaviors within those male relationships.

The show’s creator later explained that while some see the series as being about masculinity, he often views it as a story of two men who have difficulty loving each other and aren’t sure how to express it.

Half Man is one of April’s exciting TV releases, and it’s coming very soon.

Half Man will premiere on BBC iPlayer on 24 April in the UK, releasing weekly.
