Last week, a new Doctor Who audio drama came out featuring Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper! It’s called ‘Cloud Eight’ and is the fourth story in the Ninth Doctor Adventures series. You can purchase it now from Big Finish.
In ‘Cloud Eight,’ The Doctor and Rose Tyler travel to the 47th century and explore a city in the sky called High High Wycombe, a playful nod to the ‘New New York’ setting from the television series.
Initially, the place seems perfect – nobody needs to work, and there are no expenses to worry about. Residents enjoy peaceful sleep without dreaming, always waking up feeling refreshed.

I quickly realized things weren’t as perfect as they seemed – there were definitely some hidden, troubling secrets. And it turns out I, Elsa, a teenager who’s still able to dream, might be the one who can figure everything out and set things right. It’s a lot of pressure, but I feel like I’m the only one who can do it!
Both director Eccleston and co-writer Lauren Mooney agree that the themes explored in ‘Cloud Eight’ feel particularly relevant today.

Mooney is intrigued by how our jobs shape who we are. He started with the appealing idea of a world without work, but that led him to consider a future where, while no one has to work, everyone’s thoughts are essentially taken over by data storage.
It’s easy to get caught up in a world that constantly demands our attention, leading us to rely on others for ideas and creativity. While it’s tempting to stop thinking and creating for ourselves, this story shows why it’s so important to do just that – we need to exercise our own minds and imaginations!
Eccleston explained that the story’s events deeply upset The Doctor, prompting him to deliver a crucial message to humanity: “Don’t let anyone control you, and resist becoming like machines.”

This 74-minute episode includes Charlie Condou, an actor previously known for his role on Coronation Street. He also guest-starred on Doctor Who last year in the episode ‘The Interstellar Song Contest’.
A new drama starring Christopher Eccleston and Jodie Comer, titled ‘Pandemonium’, is confirmed and will be released in April. It’s filmed on location in the Powell Estate.
The Christmas special will continue the story from the last Doctor Who episode, following Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor’s transformation into a new character played by Piper. Fans are wondering if this new character is a version of Rose Tyler, another incarnation of the Doctor, the Bad Wolf, or something completely different. We’ll have to wait to find out for sure.
