Doctor Aphra's story continues beyond Return of the Jedi

As a dedicated fan who’s journeyed through the galaxy far, far away for decades, I couldn’t be more thrilled to learn that Doctor Aphra is still alive and kicking! The confirmation of her existence beyond the events of Return of the Jedi was long overdue, but it’s better late than never.

Doctor Aphra’s actions during the original Star Wars trilogy implied she survived beyond the events of Return of the Jedi. However, it wasn’t until the debut of the latest Star Wars comic, The Battle of Jakku—Republic Under Siege #1, that this was confirmed as official.

In the initial phase of the New Republic, it’s been verified that Aphra is still present. Interestingly, in this instance, she’s aiding Luke Skywalker with her specialized archaeological skills, which she tends to provide, whether they’re solicited or not.

As a dedicated Aphra enthusiast, I can’t help but feel the excitement bubbling within me, knowing that more adventures of this captivating character might be on the horizon. Although Marvel hasn’t officially announced another series (as far as I know), it’s evident from the current shift in the mainline comics towards the New Republic era that they haven’t forgotten about her charm and wit. Fingers crossed for more Aphra!

In 2015, Aphra first appeared in the original Star Wars comic series starring Darth Vader. Since then, she’s been a part of various tales told through publishing. Many fans are eagerly anticipating her arrival on television screens, and with the character Krrsantan from her comics transitioning to live-action in The Book of Boba Fett, the prospect of seeing Aphra on the small screen seems more likely than ever.

Since many Disney+ Star Wars series appear to be set in the time period following “Return of the Jedi”, it’s possible she could show up in one of the existing shows. However, whether or not this happens will largely depend on the creative decisions made by the team after series like “Andor” and “The Mandalorian” conclude.

No matter if Aphra appears on paper or screen, it’s delightful to find her thriving. Her narrative provides a one-of-a-kind, invigorating view of the galaxy that we can never tire of, regardless of how many more comic series she might be part of in the future.
