For over forty years, Aladdin has remained one of Disney’s most popular characters. After the huge success of the 1992 animated film, he continued to appear in two successful direct-to-video sequels and a popular animated TV series. Aladdin also featured in three different video games based on the original movie. His popularity surged again in 2019 with a live-action remake of the film, which performed very well at the box office.
After appearing in movies and other forms of entertainment, Aladdin is now coming to comic books! Dynamite Entertainment will release a new, ongoing Aladdin comic series in May.
Who is the creative team of the new series?

James III (known for his work on Good Burger 2, Fairy OddParents: A New Wish, and All That) is writing the new series. He previously contributed to the Stitch comic books published by Dynamite Entertainment. The artwork will be done by Italian artist Agnese Eterno, continuing a strong tradition of Italian artists creating Disney comics.
Nicoletta Baldari and Natacha Bustos will create the main and variant covers for this issue. J. Scott Campbell will contribute a spotlight cover featuring Jafar, and Eterno will create a variant spotlighting the Genie. A special blank cover will also be available for artists to create sketches at conventions. Plus, Dynamite is releasing a limited-edition “Blind Bag” variant – a bag with three random cover variants inside, themed around Aladdin’s magic lamp.
What does the writer of the series have to say about the new Aladdin comic?
Dynamite Entertainment revealed the core storyline for the upcoming comic book in a recent press release, stating that:
The new Aladdin comic series begins with our hero – the lovable street urchin turned prince – enjoying life with Princess Jasmine. Alongside his friends Abu and the Magic Carpet, and with Genie now free to live as he pleases, Aladdin seems to have it all. However, danger is brewing, and Aladdin will need all the help he can get from his loved ones to protect himself and the city of Agrabah!
James III also shared his personal connection to Aladdin in a recent statement. He explained that the movie held a special place in his childhood, as it was one of the few VHS tapes his family owned and he watched it constantly. He fondly remembers pretending to be Genie and Iago – a performance that even won him a talent show in third grade! He treasured a light-up Jafar staff and is now excited to bring that same energy to a new generation, while also creating fresh stories for today’s viewers.
Aladdin #1 is set to be released in May.
