Jon Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle in a new Marvel presentation coming to Disney+. This follows his recent return as The Punisher in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
Disney+ released a new trailer for Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again on Monday. As a special treat, the trailer also included a quick glimpse of footage from The Punisher: One Last Kill. This showed The Punisher back in his classic look – a white skull on a black outfit – and drawing a gun, suggesting the show will feature his signature violent style. You can watch the trailer below.
The Punisher Is Back in the MCU
Jon Bernthal first played The Punisher in the original Daredevil series on Netflix. The character later got his own show, The Punisher, which ran for two seasons. That series was known for its intense violence, and the new special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, is expected to be similar. In it, Frank Castle tries to start a new, peaceful life, but gets pulled back into fighting when a surprising situation arises.
The upcoming special is expected to be 60 minutes long, making it the longest of its kind so far. Even after the special finishes, The Punisher will continue to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s officially slated to appear in the movie Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where he’ll interact with Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland. That film is scheduled for release on July 31, 2026. The special also takes place at the same time as Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again.
Jon Bernthal Co-Wrote The Punisher: One Last Kill
Bernthal co-wrote The Punisher: One Last Kill with director Reinaldo Marcus Green, and both served as executive producers alongside Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, and Sana Amanat. The cast includes Bernthal as the lead, as well as Jason R. Moore, Roe Rancell, and Mila Jaymes.
I’ve often said that Frank Castle holds a special place in my heart, and I deeply care about the character,” Bernthal explained about how he became involved in co-writing the special. “When we talked about what this project could be, and the kind of Frank Castle fans—including those in the military, first responders, and comic book communities—were hoping for, I shared my vision with the creative team. They were very supportive and encouraged me to continue contributing my ideas.”
You can watch Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again right now on Disney+, and The Punisher: One Last Kill will be available starting May 12, 2026.
