Discover the Hidden Gems of Cyrodiil’s Major Cities in Oblivion Remastered!
Summary
- Cyrodiil is home to various towns and villages with unique histories and settings.
- The Imperial City serves as the central hub for vendors, resources, and quests in the game.
- Each city in Cyrodiil has its own attractions, amenities, and secrets for players to discover.
Similar to many Role-Playing Games (RPGs), the realm of The Elder Scrolls encompasses numerous nations and areas designed to captivate and unnerve explorers. Among these landscapes, Cyrodiil is one such location, holding significance as the heartland of the empire and providing the backdrop for several individual games within the series.
In the expansive land of Cyrodiil, numerous other towns and hamlets are dispersed, and they appear particularly captivating in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered. Each city boasts its own distinctive past and ambiance, with some tucked away amidst snow-capped mountains and fertile valleys, while others lie adjacent to rivers, lakes, or marshes.
9. The Imperial City
Capital And Seat of the Septim Royal Line
- Location: Centrally located, surrounded by Lake Rumare and the Upper Niben River.
In this setting, the storyline kicks off due to some mysterious political drama involving the Emperor himself. At first, the player’s objective is to flee from the capital city. However, events take a turn as they find themselves drawn back to the city rather than moving away, because it serves as a hub for vendors, merchants, resources, trainers, and quests.
As I gaze upon this grand map unfolding the expanse of our realm, it’s undeniable that all paths converge towards the majestic Imperial City. Burrowed within its heartbeat are hidden labyrinths, caves, and untold secrets waiting to be unveiled. The city offers a rich tapestry for adventure, providing ample opportunity for a player like me to delve deep, level up, and explore to my heart’s content before venturing forth into the wild unknown.
8. Kvatch
Saved From Oblivion, Sort Of
- Location: Follow the roads that lead southwest from Skingrad or northeast from Anvil.
Although Kvatch remains in ruins throughout Oblivion, players eager to explore an undamaged and active city can do so by visiting the same region within The Elder Scrolls Online. For now, a few survivors have established a small camp at the foot of the hill outside the city, offering repair and trading services for the hero.
The player has the option to delay shutting the Oblivion gate, but doing so is linked to the primary storyline. Following the completion of “Lifting the Siege of Kvatch” and “The Battle for Castle Kvatch,” the protagonist can escort Martin Septim to Weynon Priory, eventually leading to Cloud Ruler Temple as part of the main quest.
7. Skingrad
Has Everything A New Hero Needs
- Location: Southwest of the Imperial city, east of Kvatch.
In light of its dimensions and position, travelers will find themselves frequently pausing in the bustling city of Skingrad. This isn’t just for enjoying the facilities, but also for building connections with various guilds and non-player characters. It’s whispered that Count Janus Hassildor of Skingrad possesses formidable magical abilities and a hidden identity as a vampire – one of the many mysteries waiting to be uncovered by an adventurer in this very locale.
For weary adventurers seeking skill enhancement, there’s both a Fighters Guild and Mages Guild available, along with numerous spots for repairs and supplies. Although accommodations may require payment, taverns and inns cater to all tastes, ranging from basic to opulent. Furthermore, most locations boast several engaging and chatty non-player characters (NPCs).
6. Anvil
A Seaside Pirate Sanctuary
- Location: The last city on the road leading west from Kvatch, on the shores of the Abacean Sea.
In Anvil, you’ll find a strong blend of Hammerfell and Valenwood’s cultural influences due to its geographical proximity, making it more convenient for trade and travel compared to the Imperial City. This relatively small city boasts thriving commercial ties, giving it an air of prosperity that might surprise you, given its size and population.
As a gamer, if you’ve downloaded the Knights of the Nine DLC or are playing the remastered version, your adventure kicks off in Anvil. Here, you’ll embark on a quest to locate Countess Millona Umbranox’s missing husband, and delve into a chilling manor that’s been taken over by ghostly apparitions.
5. Chorrol
East Of Battlehorn Castle
- Location: Follow the Black Road west through the Great Forest.
Chorrol lies secluded in the western expanse of the Grand Forest along the Black Route, a path that eventually leads to the Imperial Capital. Adventurers can traverse the road westward until it terminates in the Colovian Uplands, where Battlehorn Castle, an additional housing facility introduced with the Fighter’s Stronghold DLC, can be found.
Generally speaking, many players will encounter Chorrol while progressing along the main storyline towards Weynon Priory, situated just south of the city gates. The Fighters Guild within this settlement presents numerous activities for its members, not to mention investigations into missing children, stolen artworks, and a troublesome Oblivion gate located south of town.
4. Bruma
Access To The Jerrel Mountains
- Location: Due north of the Imperial City, north of the junction between the Orange Road and the Silver Road.
In Bruma, you won’t find many grand towers or intricate designs. Instead, the focus is on practicality over aesthetics – people care more about functionality, such as staying warm, rather than how things appear. This region is the most northern part of Cyrodiil, with only the towering Jerrel Mountains acting as a border between Bruma and Skyrim.
Close by, you’ll find several well-known attractions like Dragon Claw Rock to the north and Gnoll Mountain to the east, where players can even purchase housing in Frostcrag Spire. Many gamers will encounter Bruma when they escort Martin Septim to Cloud Ruler Temple, which is situated right to the north of Bruma, during their main storyline.
3. Cheydinhal
The City At The End Of The Blue Road
- Location: Follow the Blue Road east of the Imperial City, located south of the shores of Lake Arrius.
In a charming Bavarian style, featuring timber-framed homes and a Gothic church, Cheydinhal stands out as one of Cyrodiil’s most beautiful cities. This beauty is partly attributed to the influence of its neighboring region, Morrowind. It’s nestled in a lush forest, with snow-capped mountains serving as a picturesque backdrop and a tranquil lake nearby.
As a fervent enthusiast, I don’t merely drop by for the stunning vistas; there’s an abundance of activities to keep a hero like me engaged. The Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, and the enigmatic Dark Brotherhood all have a significant presence here. For those fortunate enough to own the Knights of the Nine DLC, the Great Chapel of Arkay becomes an integral part of the questline’s narrative.
2. Bravil
A Quiet Seaside Town
- Location: On the confluence of the Larsius River and Niben Bay.
As I step into Bravil, a grittier town nestled along Nibenay Bay, I can’t help but feel the harshness that defines it. This city, teetering on the edge of Elswyr, is a far cry from the forgiving towns of Cyrodiil. The Larsius River to the south serves as its southern border, and the poverty that pervades here is evident in the modest homes, the hordes of vagabonds, and the neglected dwellings. It’s a tough place, but the adventure it offers is undeniable.
In the Shivering Isles expansion, players will discover Sheogorath’s whimsical domain through a door on an island away from the mainland. A city as grimy and disillusioned as Bravil is the home of the Crypt of the Night Mother. Thieves who are connected to their local guild will find more activities here relevant to other cities, while those still seeking a Gray Fox ally can locate one in this place.
1. Leyawiin
A Small Town With Many Secrets
- Location: The southernmost city in Cyrodiil, at the mouth of the Lower River Niben.
At a glance, Leyawiin might seem unassuming, but hidden within its walls lies a wealth of discovery in this secluded part of Cyrodiil. Despite being sandwiched between Elswyer and the Black Marsh, it attracts a unique blend of Khajit and Argonian residents due to its distinct location.
The majority of tasks available feature encounters with bandits, skooma dealers, and forest creatures; however, those seeking adventure may discover Ayelid ruins, forts, camps, mines, and a variety of Nirnroot along the southern coast and riverside banks of the Lower Niben.
