Be warned, this contains spoilers for both Dexter: New Blood and season 1 of Dexter: Resurrection. The second season of Dexter: Resurrection has the potential to drastically alter the relationship between Dexter and Harrison.
The Dexter series centers around Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a man who leads a secret double life. By day, he’s a blood spatter analyst, but at night, he’s a vigilante who kills criminals that the justice system has failed to punish. The franchise has expanded with spinoffs like Dexter: Original Sin, Dexter: New Blood, and Dexter: Resurrection, all of which delve into Dexter’s complex personality and personal life—particularly his crucial relationship with his son, Harrison (Jack Alcott).
At a recent event for Dexter: Resurrection, Jack Alcott, who plays Harrison Morgan and is returning for season 2, discussed the upcoming changes to the show. He told ScreenRant‘s Liam Crowley that this season will be “unlike any other version we’ve seen.” When asked about the evolving relationship between the characters, Alcott hinted at what viewers can expect.
In the finale, Harrison and Dexter finally seemed to understand each other better than at any other point in the ‘Resurrection’ storyline. Can you give us a hint about how their relationship will develop in season 2?
After experiencing so much together, Harrison and Dexter have a uniquely complex bond. They’ve repeatedly grown apart and then reconciled, facing challenges most fathers and sons never would – like the possibility of one killing the other. Now, we’re going to see a new side of them, one shaped by everything they’ve been through. Their relationship will continue to evolve as they learn from each other, acting as both father and son, but also as friends and equals. It’s a more mature and deeply felt version of their connection than we’ve seen before.
Let me tell you, revisiting Dexter Morgan in Dexter: New Blood was… complicated. After years of battling his dark impulses, Dexter made the tough call to leave his son, Harrison, with Hannah, fearing he’d pass on his tendencies. He staged his own death, hoping to break the cycle. Fast forward, and Harrison somehow tracks Dexter down in Iron Lake, and things predictably get messy. We get some seriously intense confrontations, and Dexter finally admits the truth about who he is. It’s a lot to unpack, but it definitely sets the stage for a dramatic showdown.
The most devastating moment came when Harrison appeared to kill his father, Dexter, after finally understanding who he was and wanting to stop the pattern of violence. Now, in Resurrection, Dexter finds Harrison after leaving his previous life behind. Harrison is surprised to learn Dexter is still alive, and the two are cautiously reconnecting, even bonding over covering up the murders they’ve both committed.
As a huge fan, I was really intrigued by the new set photos showing Harrison as a police officer. It feels like a game-changer! It makes me wonder how this will affect his relationship with Dexter, especially considering Dexter’s own… issues are still very much present. But honestly, the idea of both of them grappling with those dark impulses? That could be incredibly compelling and create a really fascinating dynamic between father and son. It’s a clever move, if you ask me.
Dexter: Resurrection is available to watch on Paramount+.
