Denzel Washington’s Hit Crime Thriller (& Its Unnecessary Sequel) Is Heading to Peacock Soon

A popular crime thriller is coming to Peacock, and surprisingly, its unnecessary sequel will be available there too.

If you enjoyed the 2006 film Inside Man, you’ll be happy to know it’s coming to Peacock on February 1st. And that’s not all – its 2019 sequel, Inside Man: Most Wanted, will also be available to stream on Peacock starting the same day.

Spike Lee directed this film, written by Russell Gewirtz. Detective Frazier, hoping to save his career after a public scandal, gets a chance to prove himself when he’s assigned to negotiate with Dalton Russell (played by Clive Owen) during a bank robbery.

In addition to Denzel Washington and Clive Owen, the film Inside Man features a strong cast including Jodie Foster as the influential Madeleine White, Willem Dafoe as NYPD Captain John Darius, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Detective Bill Mitchell, and Christopher Plummer as bank executive Arthur Case. The film also includes appearances by Kim Director, Bernie Rachelle, Carlos Andrés Gómez, Ken Leung, Waris Ahluwalia, Marcia Jean Kurtz, Peter Frechette, and the late James Ransone, a beloved figure in modern horror.

When Inside Man came out in 2006, it was a hit with both movie critics and general audiences. As of today, Rotten Tomatoes gives the film an 86% “Certified Fresh” rating based on 210 reviews from critics. Viewers also love it, giving it an 85% rating on the site’s “Popcornmeter” after over 250,000 user reviews.

The positive reaction to the film Inside Man directly led to its financial success in theaters. It earned over $184 million worldwide on a budget of approximately $60 million, easily establishing it as a hit. However, a sequel wasn’t made for another ten years.

The Controversial Inside Man Sequel — Explained

As a big fan of the original Inside Man, I was excited to see the 2019 follow-up, Inside Man: Most Wanted. It takes place five years after the first movie and brings back some familiar faces. This time around, Remy Darbonne teams up with Dr. Brynn Stewart, a brilliant FBI hostage negotiator played by Rhea Seehorn. They get thrown into the middle of a new heist that surprisingly connects to everything that happened in the first film. It was cool to see how they linked the stories!

The cast of Inside Man: Most Wanted includes Grek Kriek, Urs Rechn, Akshay Kumar, Jessica Sutton, and Roxanne McKee, who plays Ariella Barash, the ‘Most Wanted’ character. Andre Jacobs, Akshay Kumar, Tanya van Graan, Sven Ruygrok, Deon Lotz, Nicholas Pauling, Kevin Otto, and Peter Butler also appear in the film.

The 2019 film received mostly average to negative reviews from critics. However, audiences reacted much more positively, though not as enthusiastically as they did for the first film. Currently, Rotten Tomatoes gives it a user score of 62% based on over 100 verified reviews.

Critics didn’t like the sequel because it lacked any of the original actors or filmmakers. While it shared the title and a similar plot with Spike Lee’s popular crime film, it didn’t live up to the original’s quality.

Starting February 1st, you’ll be able to stream both Inside Man and Inside Man: Most Wanted on Peacock.
