At the end of the last season of Death in Paradise, fans watched Detective Sergeant Florence Cassell, played by Joséphine Jobert, leave the Caribbean island of Saint Marie with Detective Inspector Neville Parker (Ralf Little). They were starting a new chapter together, setting off on a romantic trip and looking forward to what adventures lay ahead.
The popular detective, previously known as DS Cassell, has arrived on the island of Saint-Pierre, starting a new job with the Canadian television series Saint-Pierre and leaving her old life behind.
This is the first time the crime series, starring Jobert, is being shown in the UK. It follows Deputy Chief Genevieve ‘Arch’ Archambault and Inspector Donny ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick (Allan Hawco), who has recently moved to Saint-Pierre and Miquelon after being forced to leave his home and family – his ex-wife and two children. Now, Fitz has to rebuild his life and work within Arch’s jurisdiction.
Viewers of Death in Paradise will likely notice similarities between how Richard Poole (Ben Miller) first arrived in Saint Marie and started interacting with DS Cassell, and the relationship between Fitz and Arch.
Similar to the way clothing highlighted Poole as an outsider, attention is drawn to this character’s differences through their attire. This mirrors the dynamic between Arch and Fitz, which felt reminiscent of the tension previously seen between Poole and Cassell.
There’s underlying conflict due to power struggles and the way Fitz was appointed, which causes tension and frustration. However, the show also includes plenty of new elements to keep things interesting, especially for viewers who are tuning in because of the star from Death in Paradise.
What to Read Next
Fitz being less rigid for one, and here Jobert takes on a much more central role.

Viewers who appreciated her strong and assertive performance as DS Cassell will likely enjoy this new role, where she’s even more outspoken and has a bit of a tougher edge. This character has a slightly prickly personality that suits the more intense and grim atmosphere of this series.
Saint-Pierre isn’t a comfortable watch; it quickly reveals that even seemingly ‘good’ characters are flawed, exploring issues like corruption, strong-arming, and deceit.
The show’s murder mysteries are captivating, filled with plenty of interesting suspects that will keep you guessing. It also introduces a few long-term puzzles to keep viewers hooked and eager to start the next episode. You’ll quickly become invested in the characters and their hidden secrets, including those of Arch.

Fitz is clearly struggling, but he can also sense the vulnerability hidden beneath Arch’s tough facade, just like the audience can.
I always thought ‘Doggy’ was a clever addition from the very beginning – they brought out a softer side to her that we hadn’t really seen before. And that little glimpse of her and her mom? It hinted at a vulnerability she’s clearly trying to hide, and it really got to me.
Even with its lingering questions, the performances by Jobert and Hawco are compelling enough to make Saint-Pierre a show people won’t want to miss.
The new series, Saint-Pierre, begins on Wednesday, April 22nd at 9pm on U&Alibi. You can also watch all episodes right now on Sky, Virgin Media, and NOW.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-colour 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
