Deadpool 2 ending explained: What happens to Russell?
As a die-hard fan of the Deadpool franchise, I cannot help but be in awe of the thought-provoking message that the second installment brings to us. The idea that not every problem can be solved by taking someone’s life is a powerful reminder, and it’s something that was beautifully portrayed at the end of Deadpool 2.
The second installation of “Deadpool” teaches us an important lesson: Not all problems are resolved through taking a life. Instead, self-sacrifices can bring about positive change. Let’s recap what transpired at the conclusion of “Deadpool 2”.
Approaching the release of the third film in the humorous and self-referential “Deadpool & Wolverine” series, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character. Keep in mind the significant background from “Deadpool” leading up to this point, as it plays a crucial role in shaping Reynolds’ portrayal moving forward.
Who is Cable in Deadpool 2?
Let’s take a moment to recall one of the complex characters before delving into the conclusion. I’m talking about Josh Brolin’s character, Cable, who hails from a dystopian future. A future where a troubled teenager named Firefist, played by Russell, originates. Firefist is responsible for the devastation of this world, and Cable is on a mission to stop that catastrophe from unfolding.
instead of killing him, they could try to dissuade Russell from carrying out his plans.
As a seasoned comic book fan with years of experience under my belt, I can tell you that the dynamic between Cable and Deadpool is one of the most intriguing in the X-Men universe. In this particular scenario, Cable’s initial resistance to Deadpool’s idea gives way to shock when he witnesses a selfless act of bravery from the Merc with a Mouth.
Cable saves Deadpool with a Skee-Ball token
At an earlier stage in the film, our anti-hero Deadpool had a Skee-Ball token stolen from him by Cable. This event becomes significant towards the end of the movie. Utilizing one of his two time-travel capabilities, Cable journeys back in time for fifteen minutes. He places the Skee-Ball token in Deadpool’s pocket before his self-sacrificing act.
In this version, the fight sequence unfolds just as before. Cable discharges his weapon, and Deadpool puts himself in harm’s way. The bullet strikes Deadpool’s torso, but fortunately, doesn’t penetrate his heart. Instead, the Skee-Ball token absorbs the impact, keeping our hero unhurt.
In this scenario, the outcome remains unaltered for Russell as he continues on his predetermined course in a universe where Deadpool met his end. The savior of Cable’s daughter brings about joyful conclusions. Additionally, there is an anticipated collaboration between Deadpool and Cable in the future.
The post-credit scene opens up multiple potential storylines from the Deadpool universe
During the film, Deadpool joins forces with two less famed X-Men: Negasonic Teenage Warhead and another character. Negasonic Teenage Warhead obtains the time-travel gadget that Cable had lost in the story. Being the mischievous one she is, she experiments with it, reactivating its temporal abilities. This time, however, there are no limits to its capabilities.
After giving the gadget to Deadpool, she watches as he sets off on a solo journey. It’s at this moment that she comes to understand her mistake. Oh well, it’s too late to change that now.
How does Deadpool employ the time machine? Primarily, to rescue Vanessa. While this lessens some of Deadpool’s character progression in the film, it doesn’t entirely. The fact that Deadpool is the one traveling back in time to save his beloved doesn’t alter his past experiences.
Deadpool has the power to travel back in time. In 2009, he arrives at a pivotal moment in Wolverine’s storyline – specifically, during the finale of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.” There, we see Wolverine preparing for battle against a Deadpool with no mouth. But before they clash, the genuine Deadpool suddenly emerges and defeats his no-mouth counterpart, leaving a stunned Wolverine to merely observe the scene unfold.
So, is this where the third Deadpool movie picks up? Get ready for it to find out!
You can currently stream Deadpool 2 on Disney+ and FX. Meanwhile, don’t miss the chance to see Deadpool team up with Wolverine in cinemas starting this coming Friday, July 26.
