DC Officially Unveils Superboy’s Design For Superman’s Next Appearance

Superman will return in a new project slated for 2026, alongside several other DC heroes. The project will also introduce a fresh take on Superboy with a particularly well-received design. Currently, Superman adaptations are thriving, especially after the previous DC movie universe didn’t fully showcase Henry Cavill’s portrayal of the character.

David Corenswet is essential to the success of James Gunn’s first phase of the DC Universe. He’ll play Superman in at least one DCU project each year, starting with a brief appearance in 2024’s Creature Commandos and continuing through the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow, planned for 2027. Corenswet has already appeared as Superman alongside Milly Alcock’s Supergirl in DCU projects.

The actress is set to star in her own Supergirl movie, coming to theaters on June 26th. The new Superman actor will also appear in the film, but in a supporting role. Before Supergirl hits theaters, both Superman and Supergirl will make appearances—in different versions not connected to the main DC Universe—alongside a reimagined Superboy in a movie planned for 2026.

Season 3 of My Adventures with Superman premieres June 13th on Adult Swim and will be available on HBO Max starting June 14th. This season introduces Superboy, who will be a key character and sport a fantastic new look.

DC Has Revealed What My Adventures With Superman Season 3’s Superboy Looks Like

One of the most talked-about aspects of superhero adaptations is the costume design. Each new project often surprises fans with suits that are faithful to the comics, updated for a modern look, or completely original. The animated series My Adventures with Superman is taking this a step further – Jack Quaid’s Clark Kent will wear a different suit each season, and season 3 is no exception. It appears Superboy, voiced by Darren Criss (who also plays Superman in the Tomorrowverse animated films), will also have multiple suit changes throughout his first season.

The latest trailer for My Adventures with Superman season 3 confirmed that Superboy will have multiple outfits. The trailer shows Superboy battling Cyborg Superman, an event that will adapt the “Reign of the Supermen” storyline from the comics – a story featuring several characters taking on the role of Superman. During this fight, Superboy wears his traditional comic book look, including a black leather jacket over a streamlined Superman suit inspired by previous designs.

Similar to the Superman in My Adventures with Superman and David Corenswet’s DCU Superman, Criss’ Superboy sports an ā€œSā€ shield inspired by the Kingdom Come comics. His suit differs from the main Superman’s, featuring gloves that are half blue and half red, red pants without trunks. Later in the trailer, while playfully teasing Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and others, Superboy appears in a slightly different outfit. This new costume keeps a similar style but swaps the solid red pants for a blue and red combination and adds a large yellow belt buckle – a detail not seen previously. He also isn’t wearing a jacket.

How My Adventures With Superman Season 3’s Superboy Compares To Other Versions Of The DC Hero

The initial suit Superboy sports in the My Adventures with Superman season 3 trailer clearly references his iconic comic book look. The leather jacket was a key part of Superboy’s original design when he first appeared in DC Comics, representing a more rebellious side to the character. However, while the comic book suit was mostly red, the animated version blends red with various shades of blue for a more balanced appearance.

As a longtime fan, I’ve always loved the classic “S” shield on Superman’s costume, and it was cool to see that same design initially used for Superboy in the comics. But My Adventures with Superman season 3 did something interesting – they gave Superboy a look inspired by the Superman design from that show, moving away from the traditional crest. It’s a much sleeker, more modern style, and honestly, it really fits the overall, stylized look of the animation. I’m really excited about this new take on Superboy; the design is fantastic!
