DC making a movie about Batman villains Bane and Deathstroke, another about Robin(s)
As a seasoned gamer and DC Universe enthusiast with decades of comics, movies, and video games under my belt, I can confidently say that the current state of the DC Universe is nothing short of exhilarating! The upcoming slate of projects, from James Gunn’s innovative take on the DCU to Matt Reeves’ gripping Batman universe, has me positively giddy with anticipation.
The DC Universe seems to be riding a high tide at the moment. On one side, we’re eagerly awaiting James Gunn’s franchise, which shares similarities with the MCU. Meanwhile, Matt Reeves’ Batman Universe is unfolding, with its spinoff series titled “The Penguin” currently airing. To add to the excitement, a new Joker movie is now playing in cinemas!
Amidst the buzz surrounding the ‘Batverse,’ The Hollywood Reporter revealed that DC Studios is developing plans to introduce some of Batman’s most famous adversaries on the big screen. These include Bane and Deathstroke, who are slated to appear in their own movie. This project is being written by Matthew Orton, who has also worked on the upcoming MCU film “Captain America: Brave New World.” The Bane-Deathstroke movie isn’t intended as a standalone production, but rather as part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s expansive ‘DCU.’ At present, there is no director assigned to this project.
This film offers plenty of excitement due to several factors. Deathstroke has graced various forms of media over time. Since his debut in 1980, he’s starred in multiple comic book series. Moreover, he’s been the central antagonist in Batman video games, and more recently showed up in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
Regarding Bane, he is most notably recognized from Tom Hardy’s outstanding performance in Christopher Nolan’s 2012 film, “The Dark Knight Rises“. He also made an appearance in live-action within “Batman & Robin” (1997), but it’s best to forget about that version.
In recent times, films that center around villains have grown increasingly popular. For instance, the film “Joker” (2019) has been a massive success in this subcategory. However, Sony has produced more movies revolving around antagonists, but these, like “Morbius” and “Venom”, have received relatively lower critical praise.
Should any villainous characters find their way to the silver screen, it’s likely that those from Batman’s world will succeed the most. After all, he boasts the most impressive roster of rogues among all heroes. The cinematic adaptations of these Batman villains have already demonstrated a strong history of success. Here’s to many more such triumphs in the future!

This independent animated film doesn’t connect with any broader storylines or timelines. It’s a must-watch, especially for those who appreciate Robin, as he often gets sidelined in modern Batman narratives.
