Darrell Sheets’ Storage Wars rival calls him ‘family’ after shock death as his depression struggles resurface

Darrell Sheets, known for his appearances on the show Storage Wars, was remembered fondly by a former competitor following his death on Wednesday at age 67. Reports indicate his death was a suicide.

I was really saddened to hear about the passing of Sheets. The Lake Havasu City Police Department released a statement saying it looked like he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. It’s just a terrible tragedy.

In the weeks leading up to his death, Sheets had been writing on Facebook about someone he called a ‘cyber bully stalker.’ He claimed this person was pretending to be him, bothering local businesses, and even demanding money from others.

After Dave Sheets passed away, his friend and Storage Wars colleague, Rene Nezhoda, asked police to investigate online harassment, and authorities confirmed they were looking into claims of cyberbullying as part of their investigation.

Dave Hester, well-known for his rivalry with Sheets on the A&E reality show, has also paid tribute.

In a recent Instagram video, 61-year-old Hester spoke fondly of Darrell, who was a long-time and important member of the ‘Storage Wars’ cast. She emphasized the close-knit nature of the show’s team and expressed confidence that they will continue to support each other and remain a group for the future.

Darren Sheets became well-known on the show Storage Wars in 2010 and was a regular cast member for the first 15 seasons, leaving in 2023.

He’d been living in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, and running an antique shop named Havasu Show Me Your Junk.

You know, as someone who’s been around the show for a while, I can tell you everyone has a huge heart for Darrell Sheets. Even though he wasn’t filming with us recently, he’s always been a presence, and a supportive one at that. Honestly, some of my most memorable and challenging moments have been going head-to-head with Darrell – but now, they’re just really great memories. He’s truly one of a kind.

He expressed his best wishes to the Sheets family, hoping everyone finds peace and that Sheets is now in a better place.

He responded to questions about ‘cyberbullying’ by saying he doesn’t understand how it happens, as he blocks that kind of content. However, he acknowledged it likely exists and hopes any instances are being handled appropriately.

Hester shared her post on the same day TMZ reported that this Saturday’s episode of Storage Wars will include a tribute to the late Dave Sheets.

I was really struck by a recent discovery – an old Instagram post from Brandon Sheets, dating back to his time on Storage Wars in June 2018. In it, he bravely opened up about his battle with depression. It was incredibly honest and shed light on the challenges he was facing behind the scenes.

According to Sheets, depression is a relentless and cruel force that steals joy, damages relationships, and crushes hope. It’s a constant struggle that can, in its most severe form, lead to suicidal thoughts. It offers no respite and relentlessly attacks a person’s well-being.

I truly believe this is something incredibly serious. Honestly, if someone shares with you that they’re struggling with depression, please just be kind. It’s not an exaggeration – they’re fighting a constant battle, and every single breath is often filled with pain. It’s a real, daily struggle they’re going through.

On March 9th, Sheets announced on Facebook that his account had been hacked. He said someone was posting content pretending to be him, claiming it was done by a malicious individual.

Sheets strongly denied being gay and claimed he hadn’t made any posts referencing an arcade owner. He stated that this person had caused him so much trouble that people were now coming to his workplace and threatening him.

Two days later, Sheets made a final Facebook post detailing a disturbing online harassment campaign he claimed had lasted three years.

Sheets said he was being harassed online by someone who used fake numbers and multiple identities to hide their tracks, describing the person as a ‘cyber bully stalker’.

He claimed the person supposedly stalking him was also bothering other local businesses, falsely using his name while doing so. He insisted, “It isn’t me!”

In a final public statement, Sheets claimed the person accused of cyberbullying him had been taking money from numerous residents by posing as a handyman.

Sheets also stated that the individual’s comments are very harmful, and he shared information about the situation because he feared for his own safety.

Six weeks later, police arrived at his Lake Havasu home at 2am and found his body.

Rene Nezhoda, a fellow competitor on the show Storage Wars for ten seasons (2014-2023), shared a heartbroken video on Instagram following his passing.

He explained that many viewers thought they disliked each other due to their frequent competition on the show, and admitted they definitely had disagreements and conflicts along the way.

Nezhoda explained that despite being rivals, he and Darrell shared a friendly connection. ‘We were the biggest competition for each other, but underneath that, we respected each other and would chat occasionally,’ he said.

He spoke highly of Sheets, describing him as incredibly dedicated and deeply devoted to his family. He specifically mentioned Sheets’s strong love for his son, Brandon, and his granddaughter, Zoie.

Nežhoda mentioned Darrell would want a good outcome from the situation, and then explained that someone had been severely bullying and harassing him online recently.

The reality TV star addressed viewers, reminding them that watching someone on television doesn’t mean you truly know them or their character. She also strongly condemned bullying, emphasizing that it’s never acceptable, whether directed at her, other public figures, or anyone else, and specifically called out cyberbullying as harmful.

Nezhoda stated that if someone you know enjoys cyberbullying others – whether they target celebrities, athletes, classmates, or anyone else – they deserve a firm reprimand, like a slap on the back of the head.

Try to help people improve themselves, because you don’t know what struggles they’re dealing with, or how your actions might affect them.

He explained that Sheets had been frequently posting about the person accused of cyberbullying and harassing him.

Nezhoda said he hopes authorities investigate the situation and don’t ignore it, adding that it’s unacceptable and people should do better.

Sergeant Kyle Ridgeway, spokesperson for the Lake Havasu City Police Department, told Page Six that the police are investigating claims of cyberbullying.
