Dark Souls-inspired RPG Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has a classic Soulslike problem: poor performance, but the devs are fending off 70% negative Steam reviews with a new patch

In an effort to alleviate some of the negative feedback from Steam, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is releasing a fresh update primarily aimed at enhancing game performance.

As a passionate admirer, I’d share that in an intriguing conversation with Screenrant, the visionary mind behind Fallen Feathers, Xia Siyuan, revealed some fascinating insights about their game development process. He expressed that from the very beginning, they aspired to design exploration based on the map philosophy of Dark Souls 1, constructing a level structure reminiscent of a labyrinthine garden (like a box within a garden), where levels often lead back to a central hub.

However, unintentionally, our Soulslike creation seemed to embrace another distinctive characteristic of this subgenre: performance issues.

Initially, the Steam launch of this game achieved an impressive milestone, but it also sparked complaints from numerous players. Currently, about 70% of the approximately 15,000 user reviews for Fallen Feathers on Steam are negative, with many pointing to performance issues as a significant problem.

The game developer Leenzee Games acknowledged that certain problems should not have arisen in the first place, and they’ve now rolled out a fix aimed at enhancing performance. In their dedication to providing an optimal gaming experience, they’ve launched Patch 1.3 to rectify several significant concerns impacting early players, as stated on Steam.

In the list, you’ll find several adjustments focusing on enhancing performance. These tweaks are designed to boost stability, minimize crashes, and eliminate stuttering that might occur due to limited video memory. Notably, certain enhancements have been tailored for systems with less powerful graphics cards.

In other parts of the update, the game developer decreased and made fewer landmines visible beneath deep snow in the second chapter of Fallen Feathers. It seems that many players found it frustrating to be killed unexpectedly by a nearly invisible trap.

If you’re still experiencing game lag, Leenzee assures us they are preparing an extended update, which should be released within the coming days.
