Daredevil’s New Suit Isn’t Alone — 10 MCU Costumes That Look Straight Out of the Comics

Daredevil isn’t the only hero with a comic-accurate costume lately. While older superhero movies weren’t afraid to embrace the bright and sometimes silly looks from the comics, newer projects have been updating those designs for a more modern feel.

Early superhero movies in the 2000s, like the first X-Men and Fantastic Four films, often featured costumes that were quite different from the bright, colorful looks in the original Marvel comics. Filmmakers were hesitant to fully recreate the comic book designs. However, more recently, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been embracing those iconic comic book looks for its heroes, frequently using them for the characters’ ultimate or most polished outfits, which has strengthened the connection to the source material and honored the heroes’ histories.

Daredevil’s Black Suit is An Awesome Callback

It’s been ten years since Daredevil (Charlie Cox) first appeared on Netflix, and the character has evolved a lot – in his personal life, career, and even his look. Fans have enjoyed seeing his red suit improve over time, and the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again will introduce a darker costume inspired by the Shadowland comic book storyline. This new look fits the season’s focus on the corrupt side of New York City and the influence of Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio).

A fantastic addition to the new costume is the “DD” emblem on Matt Murdock’s chest – something we haven’t seen in the MCU before. The upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again will show him fully embracing his Daredevil persona, even adopting a logo that could inspire others resisting Wilson Fisk’s control. This new black suit is set to be his most faithful recreation of the comic book version yet, and fans will be thrilled to see it in action.

Deadpool & Wolverine’s Suits Were a Dream Come True

Hugh Jackman first played Wolverine in the 2000 film X-Men. Throughout his 17 years with the X-Men franchise at 20th Century Fox, the character was notably dressed in a black leather and flannel outfit – a choice made due to the studio’s reluctance to use comic-book accurate costumes. Jackman said goodbye to the role with 2017’s Logan, but returned as a version of Wolverine in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, where fans finally saw him in his classic suit. It was a welcome sight, particularly alongside Deadpool.

Since first appearing as a live-action character in the 2016 film Deadpool, Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds) has consistently worn costumes very similar to those in the comics – the red suit is easily recognizable. However, Deadpool & Wolverine showcased his best costume yet. The design is streamlined, with effective armor and the perfect weaponry, including vibranium katanas. This latest MCU costume is a fantastic representation of the comic book version, and fans hope to see even more improvements as Deadpool continues his adventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel Costume Jumps From Page to Screen

The explanation for Captain Marvel’s (Brie Larson) suit was excellent. It cleverly used a recolored version of her old Starforce uniform, letting her connect with her history while also matching her comic book look in the 2019 film. Later, in movies like Avengers: Endgame, Ms. Marvel, and The Marvels, her suit was further improved, bringing it even closer to its comic book origins.

Captain Marvel’s suit in the MCU has consistently had a great balance of red and blue, and her bomber jacket is a nice detail that connects her to home, even while traveling through space. The Marvels improved her suit and also gave more comic-book-accurate costumes to Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) and Photon (Teyonah Parris). It would be great to see even more of Captain Marvel’s different looks from the comics brought to life on screen.

Ms. Marvel’s Suit is a Spectacle of Detail

Regarding The Marvels, Carol Danvers wasn’t the only one with a costume more faithful to the comics. Kamala Khan also received her first comic-accurate suit in her first MCU appearance, and many fans actually prefer it. Her costume in the 2022 Ms. Marvel series was unique, assembled from items collected throughout the show – a scarf from Red Dagger, a mask made by her friend Bruno (Matt Lintz), the emblem from her necklace, and lovingly handmade by her mother (Zenobia Shroff).

The original suit from the Ms. Marvel comics truly defined her character, and while The Marvels introduced a new suit with impressive abilities, there was something special about the first one. The new suit in The Marvels is also fantastic – it’s a more modern and streamlined design, made with advanced materials from the musical planet of Aladna. We’re looking forward to seeing how Kamala’s costume develops within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Sam Wilson’s Original Captain America Suit Was Perfect

Throughout his time as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) wore costumes inspired by the comics. However, it was Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) who ultimately donned the most comic-accurate suit. After initially being unsure, Sam Wilson fully accepted his role as the new Captain America by the end of the 2021 Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. As a gesture of goodwill after handing Baron Zemo (Daniel Brühl) over to the Dora Milaje, the Wakandans created a superhero suit specifically for Wilson.

Because Sam Wilson, as Captain America, doesn’t have the same super-strength as previous Captains, his advanced white-and-blue suit was crucial for protection. The suit, which included his signature wings, first appeared in the 2025 film Captain America: Brave New World and was based on his comic book designs. This white suit was a particularly accurate representation of his comic book history, and fans would love to see it again in future stories.

Classic Loki Calls Back to a Bygone Era

Though many of Tom Hiddleston’s costumes as Loki, the Asgardian God of Mischief, draw inspiration from Marvel Comics, the costume worn by Classic Loki particularly stood out. This version of Loki, played by Grant, went into hiding after defeating Thanos, but was eventually removed from the timeline when he tried to rejoin his family. His outfit closely resembled the classic green and yellow Loki look from the comics, complete with the familiar horned helmet.

As a critic, I have to say introducing that wonderfully silly costume as a variant look in the MCU was brilliant. Marvel’s done this before – remember playfully acknowledging the comic-book accuracy of outfits on shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and even with characters like Thor? It’s a smart move. Classic Loki’s ridiculously awesome outfit in Loki didn’t diminish his power at all, and honestly, it was a fantastic, fun addition to what’s shaping up to be a really exciting Multiverse Saga.

Wanda Maximoff’s Scarlet Witch Suit Was a Long Time Coming

In the 2021 series WandaVision, Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Vision (Paul Bettany), and even Ralph Bohner, appearing as Quicksilver (Evan Peters), jokingly referenced how much their costumes resembled their comic book appearances – they dressed up as their comic book selves for Halloween. But Wanda’s final outfit, after becoming the Scarlet Witch, was as close to her comic book design as a live-action costume could realistically be.

As a longtime fan, I was thrilled to finally see Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlet Witch we’ve all been waiting for! She had the classic red outfit and crown – it felt like the character truly arrived after that brief glimpse in Captain America: The Winter Soldier back in 2014. While her costume in WandaVision was interesting and showed her descent into darkness, I’m really hoping that if Olsen plays Wanda again, she gets the comic-accurate suit. With the X-Men and mutants potentially joining the MCU soon, it would be the perfect time!

Doctor Strange’s Suit Gets Better as Time Goes On

Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) is a powerful magic user in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, originally destined to become the Sorcerer Supreme and a master of the mystic arts. His outfit hasn’t changed much since he first appeared in 2016’s Doctor Strange, and still features the classic blue robes and his iconic red Cloak of Levitation. The addition of the cloak was a significant part of his look.

Doctor Strange’s outfit has changed over the years, and a recent addition – a third eye – comes directly from the comic books. In the comics, this third eye is a natural part of the Eye of Agamotto, helping Strange understand his enemies and reach a greater awareness. While it seems to function differently in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s exciting to see his costume becoming more faithful to the original comics.

Marc Spector’s Moon Knight Honors the Source and Evolves it

Oscar Isaac’s portrayal of Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight, was a standout addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022. Fans are eager to see him return, hoping to get a better look at his impressive suit of armor. Though the suit’s origins and materials differ somewhat from the comic books, the design – featuring white armor, a white cloak, and a crescent moon symbol – is remarkably faithful and makes it one of the best costumes in the MCU.

In the Marvel comics, Moon Knight’s suit started as Kevlar and was later upgraded to adamantium. But in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), his costume is actually special ceremonial armor given to him by Khonshu, the Egyptian Moon God. Interestingly, the suit changes based on which of his personalities is in control. Marc Spector gets the complete Moon Knight armor, while his other personality, Steven Grant, wears the stylish Mr. Knight suit. We haven’t seen the costume of his third personality, Jake Lockley, in the MCU yet, and fans are hoping to see him introduced properly in future installments.

Peter Parker’s Spider-Man Suit Has Reached its Pinnacle

Since first appearing in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has worn costumes closely resembling those from the comic books. His latest suit, with its vibrant red and blue colors and a look like it was actually made by hand, is a perfect fit for the character.

A brief preview in August 2025 showed Tom Holland as Spider-Man in a redesigned suit. The new suit features raised webbing and a bigger spider logo, closely resembling his classic comic book look. This is part of a trend in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of costumes inspired directly by the comics. With the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday introducing characters from different realities, we can expect even more costumes that stay true to their comic book origins.
