In Season 1 of Daredevil: Born Again, Daredevil intervened when Bullseye tried to kill Mayor Fisk. Did he realize the consequences of stopping Bullseye’s attempt? Preventing Bullseye from getting his revenge has created a chain reaction, leading to the violence we see with Bullseye in Season 2, Episode 4, and has also made Fisk even more determined to carry out his grand plan.
I’ve been following Wilson Fisk’s moves, and it’s becoming clear his ambitions go way beyond just defeating Daredevil or even controlling New York. He mentioned to Vanessa that he never wants to leave the city, but I think that’s just the starting point. The freeport and the Northern Star were big, sure, but they seem almost small-scale now. He’s clearly planning something much larger, something that extends far beyond the city limits, and it’s honestly a little frightening to think about.
Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again, has indicated that, similar to the comic books, Kingpin’s ambitions extend beyond simply controlling New York City.
Kingpin Wants More Than NYC, Daredevil
Wilson Fisk’s journey from a crime boss to the mayor of New York City suggests he’s aiming for even greater power, but it’s unclear what his ultimate goal is.
To directly address the question, Scardapane believes Fisk would have more influence as a martyr. He suggests that Fisk feels limited in his current role, but as president, those limitations might disappear. Ultimately, Scardapane is certain that Fisk would inevitably become an emperor, regardless of his position.
You know, watching him, I get the feeling this guy isn’t after national fame, he’s obsessed with New York City itself. It’s like he needs the city to accept him, but even if it does, I don’t think he’d ever be happy. He’s not trying to win over the whole country, just become a local hero, a New Yorker who makes it big.
Kingpin vs. Daredevil and The Avengers??
Hmm … President Kingpin? Emperor Fisk? Oh my, the possibilities.
The idea of either scenario is excitingly frightening. It wouldn’t just overwhelm Daredevil, the Punisher, and the Defenders, but it would also make Wilson Fisk a target for the Avengers. Fisk can’t truly expand his influence across the country—or beyond—without inevitably attracting the attention of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
This would lead Fisk to recruit other supervillains with similar abilities to help him, hinting at a potentially explosive storyline – though it’s hard to imagine Kingpin actually going that far.
Season 1 and Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again are currently streaming on Disney+.
