Daredevil Born Again Showrunner’s Latest Comments Have Me Convinced Jessica Jones Is Married

The upcoming Disney+ series Daredevil: Born Again will feature Jessica Jones, played again by Krysten Ritter. This marks a continuation of her story within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following her appearances in the Netflix Defenders series. The show will reintroduce Jessica Jones after a ten-year gap in the MCU timeline (and seven years in real-world time), and promises new developments and surprises as she joins Daredevil’s battle against Kingpin and his efforts to control New York. Showrunners have alluded to this as a “next chapter” for the character.

Dario Scardapane, the showrunner for Daredevil: Born Again, recently spoke with SFX Magazine about Krysten Ritter reprising her role as Jessica Jones in the show’s second season.

Scardapane admitted it’s been a while since her Netflix show finished in 2019, suggesting that Jones and the other characters have experienced significant life changes since then.

We’ve recognized that several years have passed since the original Netflix series ended, and our show picks up after that. The characters have grown and changed with time, and we’re exploring what that looks like, especially for Jessica Jones – how does a tough, witty person like her evolve over seven years?

The executive in charge of Born Again suggested the super-powered investigator’s story isn’t over after Season 3. He explained that Marvel Comics has the potential to continue her journey, with future storylines still to be revealed.

Melissa Rosenberg’s work on the first season of Jessica Jones is among the best superhero TV ever made. When I joined Marvel, my first priority was to revive the show, because I didn’t think Jessica’s story was finished. The comic books actually outline a compelling next phase of her life that I’m eager to explore.

Fans of Jessica Jones from the comics know she’s been married to Luke Cage since 2006, and they have a daughter together named Danielle Cage, who is named after Danny Rand (Iron Fist). They’re one of Marvel’s most well-known superhero couples, joining iconic pairs like Reed and Sue Richards, Vision and Scarlet Witch, and Rogue and Gambit.

As a huge fan of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, I’ve always loved their dynamic – both as partners and parents in the comics. Seeing hints of that relationship in the MCU already got me thinking… with all the talk about big changes coming for Jessica, could we finally see her and Luke tie the knot? It would be amazing, and honestly, feels like a natural step for their story!

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again will be available on March 24th. And fans can look forward to seeing more of Charlie Cox as Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, and Mike Colter as Luke Cage, with a third season planned for 2027.

Why Jessica Jones & Luke Cage’s Marriage Story Is Perfect For the MCU

In Season 1 of Netflix’s Jessica Jones, the show revisited the comic book relationship between Jessica and Luke Cage, sparking a passionate romance that didn’t ultimately develop. Despite this, they maintained a close bond, and Cage made a final appearance in the series to offer Jessica support and advice.

Unfortunately, Marvel Studios hasn’t announced Luke Cage’s return yet, but Mike Colter recently shared with TopMob that he’s been in discussions with Marvel about it and expressed what he’d like to see happen if he reprises the role. Meanwhile, when Jessica Jones appears in Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, it could confirm that she and Luke Cage are married, even though it happened off-screen, potentially leading to more of their story being told in the future.

While fans are eager for the next season of Born Again, Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum has suggested a new Jessica Jones project is coming “sooner than you think.” A Disney+ series or special could explore Jessica Jones and Luke Cage as parents navigating street-level heroics, offering a different take on family dynamics than what was seen in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Following Season 2 of Born Again, Luke Cage might be the one to take over from Mayor Wilson Fisk. This is based on the Devil’s Reign comic storyline, which the show is drawing from, where Cage ultimately replaced Fisk as mayor.
