Be warned: this article contains spoilers from episode 8, “The Southern Cross,” of Daredevil: Born Again season 2. News about Matt Murdock’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2027 is starting to surface, following the events concluding in 2026.
Filming for the third season of Marvel Studios’ Daredevil: Born Again is progressing well and is expected to finish in early July. Showrunner Dario Scardapane recently told Entertainment Weekly that they’re about halfway through production, with all scripts completed except for the finale. Currently, they’re finishing up episode four and will move onto the final blocks of episodes before wrapping up filming in June and July.
The season finale of Daredevil: Born Again dramatically changed Matt Murdock’s life. He publicly revealed his identity as the masked vigilante known as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Although he successfully prevented Wilson Fisk from becoming mayor, Matt ultimately faced consequences for his actions and was imprisoned by the end of the season.
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel’s Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, recently told ScreenRant that the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again will be set about a year after Matt Murdock’s secret identity was revealed. He explained that while there will be a time jump, it won’t be a large one – around the same amount of time that passed between previous seasons of the show.
I’m really excited for Daredevil: Born Again season 3! From what I understand, it’s going to loosely follow the ‘The Devil In Cell-Block D’ storyline from the comics, which is a fantastic arc. They’re keeping a lot of the details about Matt’s time in prison a secret for now, but the coolest part? It sounds like we’ll be seeing a bunch of characters we loved from the old Marvel-Netflix shows return. It’s going to be a blast!
Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones, following her appearance in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again. Photos from the set of season 3 also show that Mike Colter and Finn Jones are returning as Luke Cage and Danny Rand, respectively. The season finale already featured a brief return by Colter, showing a reunion with Jessica and their daughter, Danielle.
As a critic, I’m excited to report the MCU is staying grounded for a bit longer. We’re getting more of Jon Bernthal as the Punisher! First, The Punisher: One Last Kill hits screens on May 12th, and then, believe it or not, he’ll be popping up in Spider-Man: Brand New Day next summer – that’s the first Marvel Studios film slated for 2026. It’s great to see Marvel continuing to embrace these darker, street-level characters.
Disney+ hasn’t announced a specific release date yet, but Daredevil season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2027. The first two seasons are already available to watch on the streaming service.
