Be warned, this article contains significant spoilers for the final episode of Daredevil: Born Again (season 2). The season concludes with Matt Murdock publicly revealing his identity as Daredevil, leaving fans to wonder what this means for his role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While the first season’s finale showed Matt preparing to battle Fisk and the AVTF with allies at his side, this season took the story in a very different direction.
Matt spent a lot of time finding people to support him in a fight against Fisk. When he was prepared, he got a public opportunity to challenge the Mayor directly – while acting as a lawyer in Karen Page’s case, he confronted Fisk face-to-face. This created a memorable moment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Matt Murdock revealed to everyone that he is Daredevil.
Why Matt Murdock Outed Himself As Daredevil
Just like Tony Stark famously announced he was Iron Man on camera years ago, Matt Murdock reveals his Daredevil identity in court while being filmed. He immediately proves it by tossing his cane, which transforms into his signature billy club, and skillfully catches it after it bounces around the room.
It’s incredibly difficult, considering he’s blind, but Murdock insists he’s Daredevil and reveals he was on the Northern Star – the boat Fisk used to smuggle weapons. This surprising information is exactly what Matt needs to win his case, and the charges are dropped.
What Happens To Wilson Fisk After The Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Finale
Fisk takes the situation extremely personally, and as his control over New York City weakens, he flies into a rage. Shortly after the legal proceedings, fueled by protesters demanding his resignation, Fisk loses control and violently attacks those who are protesting at the building.
Fisk violently attacks people who annoy or frustrate him, and relentlessly pursues Daredevil throughout the city. Daredevil is grappling with how far he’s willing to go to stop Fisk, and after a short fight, Matt removes his mask in an attempt to talk some sense into the powerful and aggressive Fisk.
Matt manages to get through to Fisk, showing him how their actions are actually harming the city they both care about. He urges Fisk to walk away, and surprisingly, Fisk is able to listen and agree. The episode later reveals he’s left for a warmer, sunnier place.
How Will The Defenders Fit Into Daredevil: Born Again Season 3
Mike Colter’s appearance as Luke Cage was a welcome surprise on the show, though many fans anticipated it. The season finale of Daredevil: Born Again brought Jessica Jones and her daughter, Danielle, back together with Luke. This initially seemed like a partial reunion of The Defenders team, but photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again season 3 have confirmed Finn Jones will reprise his role as Danny Rand, bringing almost the entire team back together. The only missing piece is that Matt Murdock ends up arrested and imprisoned at the end of season 2.
Based on recent set photos, it looks like Danny Rand, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage might be working together to break Matt Murdock out of prison. The photos show the three of them without Matt, suggesting a rescue mission. This makes sense given their complex moral compasses, and New York could really use the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen if things take a turn for the worse.
Why Did Heather Glenn Put On The Muse Mask In The Daredevil: Born Again Finale?
The season finale of Daredevil: Born Again reveals that Heather Glenn, Matt Murdock’s former girlfriend and now a friend of Vanessa and Wilson Fisk, possesses the mask worn by the person who previously attempted to kill her. Throughout the season, Heather’s strange behavior and the fact that she held onto the mask were both unsettling and mysterious.
When Heather finally puts on the mask, her reflection shows her human face looking at the mask, not in it. This clever visual suggests she’s either accepting who she really is by wearing the mask, or she’s locking away her humanity as she transforms into the Muse.
Honestly, the idea of where this is going is really scary! It feels like it could easily turn her into a huge villain in the next season of Daredevil: Born Again, and I’m both excited and worried about it.
What Happened To Bullseye In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
Throughout the past two seasons, Benjamin Poindexter, better known as Bullseye, has also been developing his own storyline. Previously, he was Matt Murdock’s enemy and imitator, working with Wilson Fisk to discredit Daredevil in the Netflix series.
During the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, Matt nearly kills his enemy, Bullseye, after discovering Bullseye was responsible for the death of his close friend, Foggy Nelson. However, Bullseye starts to regret his past and becomes determined to kill Vanessa Fisk, blaming her for the person he’s become.
Okay, so this season was intense. Bullseye finally got what was coming to him, tragically taking Vanessa’s life and completely derailing Wilson Fisk’s control over the city. It was brutal to watch. But honestly, the best part was seeing Matt step in and convince Fisk to use his abilities for good – to actually help bring down Fisk himself. It was a really unexpected, but compelling, turn of events.
It seems Bullseye has a surprising moment of heroism at the season’s end, helping to bring Luke Cage home before leaving with Mr. Charles to become his enforcer. However, this likely marks the beginning of a familiar pattern: Poindexter being exploited by those in charge, ultimately leading to another breakdown.
Season two of Daredevil: Born Again was packed with major surprises, difficult ethical questions, and heartbreaking losses. Despite all this, it was a fantastic season, and fans are eagerly anticipating the same energy in season three.
