Danny Dyer responds to “backhanded” praise for his role in new show
As a seasoned gamer who’s seen his fair share of twists and turns in both the virtual and real world, I must say that Danny Dyer‘s journey in the gaming landscape of the entertainment industry is nothing short of epic. The man, known for his gripping roles on shows like EastEnders and Rivals, has once again proven that he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Previously known EastEnders actor Danny Dyer has countered the subtle compliments he’s been given regarding his performance in the TV series Rivals.
Actor Mick Carter takes center stage in Disney+’s 1980s-era drama series, which unfolds amidst the picturesque English countryside of the Cotswolds. The narrative revolves around a class conflict between newly wealthy and established old money figures within the television broadcasting industry.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my excitement over the small-screen adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s 1988 novel, which boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Among the many talented actors gracing our screens are David Tennant, previously known for his stellar performance in Doctor Who, Alex Hassell from The Boys, and Aidan Turner, who stole hearts as Ross Poldark. This promising lineup certainly makes anticipation for the series’ premiere soar!
Dyer has received critical acclaim for the role of moustached, self-made tech millionaire Freddie Jones, though he has explained that some positive comments felt like backhanded compliments.
In their latest podcast Live and Let Dyers, Dyer mentioned that some individuals were suggesting that he, in a sense, emerged as a skilled actor following the situation.
It seems like there’s a subtle, but noticeable criticism coming from the larger newspapers regarding the show ‘Rivals‘, as one headline reads, ‘The surprising talent of Danny Dyer in Rivals‘. In simpler terms, it appears they are expressing surprise that Danny Dyer has acting skills.
“In a way, I’m going, ‘Oh thanks for the compliment,’ at the same time going, ‘Well, f**k off!'”
Dyer pondered over silencing his critics, remembering the harsh criticisms about his acting abilities that surfaced when the cast for Rivals was announced.
Do you recall when Disney+ unveiled their new project, called Rivals? It created quite a buzz! They even revealed the entire cast list. Some people reacted with, ‘I’m confused by the inclusion of Danny Dyer,'” he commented.
There were several reasons I hesitated, whispering to myself, “Oh my goodness, what’s happening with Disney? Why would they hire him?” Boy, were they mistaken.
Ever since its debut on October 18, this eight-part series has garnered favorable feedback. In fact, Dyer expressed that he’s been touched by the affection both he and the show have received from viewers and critics alike.
“I’m so proud to be part of such an amazing piece of work,” he added.
Rivals streams on Disney+.
