Bridgerton’s Luke Newton lands first lead movie role
As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of countless hours of TV shows, I can confidently say that Luke Newton has managed to captivate my attention yet again. His transition from the drawing rooms of Bridgerton to the virtual production environment of White Mars is nothing short of impressive. The sci-fi thriller’s premise of fighting a malevolent entity sounds like it could be the plot of a high-stakes video game level I’d spend hours trying to conquer.
Bridgerton star Luke Newton has landed his first lead role in a live-action film.
Acting as Colin Bridgerton on the popular Netflix series, this actor is set to team up with Lucy Hale, known for her role in Pretty Little Liars, in an upcoming sci-fi thriller titled White Mars (as reported by Deadline).
The movie unfolds within the secluded Aquila Research Facility, where microbiologist Sammie (played by Hale) and her coworker Leo (Newton) struggle desperately to protect their teammates from a malicious force that aims to annihilate everyone.
Filming is now underway at Cinecittà Studios in Rome, with the entire production taking place within a cutting-edge virtual setting.
The film “Above the Below,” directed by Martin Owen, is being scripted by Matt Mitchell, Vicki Sargent, and Roo Berry. Matt Williams, Neil Jones, Steve Griffith, and Steve Jelley are among the producers.
In a statement, Hale enthusiastically expressed that “White Mars” promises to be a gripping mental rollercoaster, and he can’t wait to capture it on camera at the Cinecittà film studios in Rome.
At the core of this tale lies Sammie, a character who inspires me deeply due to her remarkable resilience and fortitude. I’m eagerly looking forward to joining forces with Martin Owen, our exceptional cast, and the whole crew to breathe life into this story.
In July 2025, it’s expected that Newton will make an appearance in the upcoming Portuguese animated series titled “Viana the Legend of the Golden Hearts“.
The story revolves around Princess Ana, portrayed by Daniela Melchior from “Road House”, who finds herself smitten with the humble craftsman Thomas (Newton). Yet, her father swiftly disapproves of their budding relationship and insists that any potential suitors must present a precious stone to demonstrate their noble lineage.
Previously this year, the beloved character of Colin Bridgerton from Newton’s series was a hot topic among society, as his budding romance with Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) became the main focus in the third season of Bridgerton.
In the fourth season, the narrative will center around Benedict Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Thompson, and his romantic journey. Yerin Ha is set to join the series as her character, Sophie Baek, becomes involved in this love story.
As for the white planet Mars, there isn’t a set launch date at this time. However, you can stream Seasons 1-3 of Bridgerton, as well as Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, on Netflix.
