Dafne Keene To Lead New Romantic British Crime Drama ‘Driver’

Dafne Keen and Aidan Gillen are set to star in a new crime thriller titled Driver. Keen, 21, will play Camden, a young woman working as a call girl who develops a connection with Trey, a former convict now driving at night in London. Gillen will portray Dickinson, a dangerous man from Trey’s past. The film will be directed and co-written by Patrick Ireland, who has previously earned acclaim for his short films like “One In a Million” and “Ill Fares the Land.” Driver will be Ireland’s first full-length feature film. More details are available in the official synopsis, as reported by Variety.

I’m completely gripped by Trey and Camden’s story. They’re stuck in a tough spot – torn between being loyal, being afraid of what might happen if they break the rules, and the hope of actually getting out. It’s really making me think about what they’d have to sacrifice to be truly free, especially when the whole system seems determined to keep them trapped. It’s a powerful story about the cost of freedom.

Dafne Keen first gained recognition as the intense and memorable Laura, Wolverine’s companion, in the 2017 film Logan. Since then, she’s consistently impressed audiences, even starring in her own series, His Dark Materials, a well-received adaptation of Philip Pullman’s novels. She seems perfectly suited to play a strong, realistic character like Camden. Keen will also be an executive producer on the film, further showcasing her talents. She shared her excitement about the project, saying, “I’m eager to explore such a layered character within Patrick’s truthful, moving, and empathetic story. He has a gift for finding hope amidst darkness, and I knew I wanted to be involved.”

Aidan Gillen has worked in film and television for more than thirty years, and is widely recognized for his iconic role as the scheming Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish in Game of Thrones. Like Matthew Keen, he’s a natural fit for playing a criminal – he’s already proven he can convincingly portray villains.

‘Driver’ Director Teases Film About “Class, Trauma and Liberation”

HBO

Patrick Ireland believes his film, ‘Driver,’ tackles important themes. He describes it as a deeply human story exploring class, trauma, and the fight for freedom, focusing on the strength it takes to rebuild a life and challenge societal exploitation.

The filmmakers are still looking for an actor to play the character of Trey. The movie sounds a lot like Drive (2011) or Baby Driver (2017)—both films feature getaway drivers involved in crime. It makes you wonder if Ryan Gosling or Ansel Elgort, who starred in those movies, could play Trey, perhaps with a British accent.
