The singer, who famously took a break from music to compete in swimming before returning to his music career, recently discussed his journey to stardom and past relationships on the ‘We Need to Talk’ podcast with Paul C. Brunson.

He first gained attention for dating Kylie Jenner when he was just 15 years old, soon after relocating from Australia to pursue a life in Hollywood.

Dating Kim Kardashian’s younger sister helped Cody gain access to celebrity circles early in his life, thanks to her family’s reality TV show.

He told Brunson they went on dates, including going to the movies, and were together for around a year. He believes they grew close because they shared those unusual experiences.

By the time he was sixteen, he began dating Gigi Hadid, a rising model who also came from a well-known family. This relationship likely expanded his connections within influential social circles.

Cody told Brunson that her stepfather was David Foster, a very talented music producer, and she admits she didn’t fully value their relationship at the time.

Simpson went on to date Miley Cyrus between 2019 and 2021.

Honestly, dating Miley was everything for Cody. He was so tired of being seen as just that teen-pop guy, you know? I was so surprised when Cody and Miley broke up! It was great to see him come back to Australia and really focus on swimming again – he was amazing at it back in high school on the Gold Coast. And then, wow, he started dating Emma McKeon! She’s such an incredible swimmer herself, one of Australia’s best, so it felt like a really good match.

Their relationship happened at the perfect moment. While he was seriously training for the Olympics in competitive swimming, being close to Emma – a highly successful athlete – would have given him invaluable advice and opportunities that money couldn’t purchase.

Cody stopped swimming competitively after his Olympic goals ended in June 2024. He and Emma recently announced they are separating on good terms.

Despite the breakup, the singer and athlete seems to be doing well, as they’ve started dating 32-year-old American influencer Adelia Clark.

The pair were spotted last week strolling arm-in-arm outside a café in Los Angeles.

After Cody released his “We Need to Talk” podcast episode on YouTube, many viewers started discussing how his past relationships might relate to his professional success.
