CS2’s review score drops after The Armory update: “Where is our money going to, Valve?”

As a seasoned CS2 player with over 3000 hours under my belt, I must say, the recent Armory update has left me and many others in the community feeling like we’ve been short-changed. The new skins and gun charms are shiny, yes, but they’re not enough to make up for the FPS drops and lack of substantial gameplay improvements.

A lot of CS2 players are unhappy with the state of the game.

This past week, the Steam review rating for CS2 has shifted from “Very Positive” to “Mainly Positive,” following the contentious release of The Armory update.

In the Armory update on October 2nd, Valve implemented significant modifications to the character animations and network aspects within CS2; however, numerous players have yet to notice these changes beyond the newly introduced skins and weapon trinkets in the game.

While these fresh cosmetics certainly add a touch of style, it’s important to note that you need to buy several Battle Passes in order to access all the content. Unfortunately, these newly introduced items seem to be causing frame rate issues for players as well.

What do the recent CS2 negative reviews say?

Many current reviews appear to emphasize a common theme: Valve is generating revenue from skins in CS2, while not significantly enhancing its gameplay.

“A year has passed, Armory update is a cash grab with no real gameplay value,” a player with over 1,600 hours played between CS:GO and CS2 wrote on Steam. “VAC nowhere to be found, no new maps, the CS:GO community has been wiped off the face of the earth. Disgusting company.”

“A player with more than 2,000 hours of gameplay expressed dissatisfaction about the latest Armor Pass upgrade, stating that it’s just a deception as they are still waiting for fresh content despite receiving updates. The improvements on character animations are acknowledged but deemed insufficient. Essentially, they feel they’re spending 16€ on a Battle Pass to accumulate points and gamble for skins, similar to opening loot boxes, with no guarantee of getting something desirable. Once the points from the Armor Pass run out, you have to purchase another one if you didn’t get the skin you wanted – a disappointment indeed!

What Valve has done after CS2’s The Armory update?

So far, Valve hasn’t taken significant steps to extinguish the issues arising from The Armory update. Despite the developer claiming they released “stability fixes” on October 4th, gamers continue to encounter frame rate drops.

Primarily, the game creator reduced the experience points earned from damage inflicted by knives and utilities in modes like Casual, Competitive, and Wingman to discourage players from accumulating experience at a quicker rate through excessive farming.

In simple terms, the gaming community of CS2 anticipates stronger improvements within the next few weeks, following the influx of unfavorable feedback. Meanwhile, it’s expected that discontented players will persist in airing their grievances on Reddit and submitting negative reviews on Steam, potentially lowering the overall rating of CS2 even more.
