The long-running series Criminal Minds has come to an end, and this contains spoilers for the Season 19 finale of Criminal Minds: Evolution. The final episode, titled “Badder Blood,” marks the last appearance of Elias Volt, also known as Sicarius – the serial killer portrayed by Zack Gilford.
Volt was a major enemy of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, but surprisingly became a helpful source of information in later seasons when his dangerous followers started committing crimes. The final episode of Criminal Minds Season 19 concludes his story with an ironic twist: he takes the blame for a murder actually committed by his daughter, Holly.
Criminal Minds: Evolution Says Goodbye to a Major Star
The season finale of Criminal Minds: Evolution revolved around Justin Crowley, a devoted follower of Peter Voit—calling himself “The Fan” (played by Justin Kirk)—who kidnapped Holly to bait her father into rescuing her from prison. Though Crowley almost killed Voit, Holly ended up killing him first. Realizing the trouble this would cause for his daughter, Voit took the blame for Crowley’s death.
This meant Voit would no longer help the BAU with their cases. He was transferred to a maximum-security prison to finish serving his lengthy sentence. Though he’s still alive, Gilford believes this effectively closes Voit’s chapter… at least for the time being.
Honestly, I was a little heartbroken to hear Thomas Gibson say he’s finished with ‘Criminal Minds’ – at least for the time being. He told TV Line that he thinks the BAU team is going to struggle to solve cases without him, and he said it with a laugh, but you could tell he meant it. It really makes you wonder where the show goes from here!
Criminal Minds: Evolution Brings the Sicarius Story to Its End
The popular show Criminal Minds returned as Criminal Minds: Evolution on Paramount+, but this time as a streaming series. The new format allowed for longer, more connected storylines. Elias Voit played a central role, initially appearing as the criminal the team was hunting in the first season of Criminal Minds: Evolution. Actor Zach Gilford became a regular cast member, and after the BAU caught Sicarius, his character, Voit, developed amnesia.
Season 18 of Criminal Minds: Evolution picks up six months after Voit was attacked in prison. This attack sparked his followers on the dark web into action, leading to widespread chaos across the United States. To counter this threat, the BAU found themselves unexpectedly working with Voit, even as he became more unstable and continued pursuing his own goals.
Gilford described how Voit used to see himself as better than others and constantly tried to manipulate them – often successfully. However, this season is different. Voit isn’t seeking forgiveness or trying to fix past mistakes; he simply wants to do what he believes is right and lessen the negative consequences of his earlier actions.
Criminal Minds: Evolution is streaming now on Paramount+.
