Beverley Callard recently told fans she’s feeling optimistic and healthy after receiving a breast cancer diagnosis, providing a hopeful update on her condition.
I was so saddened to hear that our beloved Coronation Street icon, who’s 68, is bravely facing an illness. She shared the news while she was over in Ireland, actually – she’s appearing on their soap, Fair City, and was talking about it on a show there. It takes incredible strength to share something like that, and we’re all sending her our love and support.
Beverley shared with her fans that the cancer was detected early, but she’ll need to go back to the UK for treatment, including radiotherapy and surgery.
The actress announced on Monday that she’s returned home to Norfolk with her husband, Jon McEwan, and their dogs, after traveling by ferry.
In a video message, Beverley expressed her gratitude to everyone for their kind words, saying she’s been overwhelmed by the fantastic support.
I’m feeling really good and strong as I start my recovery at home after beginning treatment.
Things are getting started this week. On Wednesday, they’ll be running tests on my lymph nodes and glands, and I’ll share updates as I have them.
‘I’m so appreciative of all the love that’s coming, thank you.’
Beverley shared on The Late Late Show last Friday that she learned of her diagnosis only 20 minutes before starting to film her new acting role. She told host Patrick Kielty about the incredibly quick turnaround of emotions.
She shared that she’d recently had some medical tests before leaving the UK. Just 15 to 20 minutes before filming her first scene, while getting ready in her dressing room at Fair City, she felt quite nervous and worried about whether she seemed okay to everyone.
My doctor called and insisted I return to the UK. I explained that I couldn’t, as I had just started a new job and was already away for a month.
Beverley said she’s doing well, though she felt a little shaken up for the first few days. She emphasized it’s still very early on, and she’s one of many women going through a similar experience.
The soap opera actress will be joining the RTÉ show as Lily, the mother of Fair City character Gwen (played by Emily Lamey), who was previously thought to be lost.
Earlier photos released for publicity show Beverley preparing for her role, including a shot of her wearing a black leather jacket.
In another photo, the actress is wearing a cream-colored, ruffled jacket and jeans while standing by a sign that says ‘Welcome to Carrigstown’.
Beverley recently responded to rumors that she was using weight-loss injections after people noticed her weight loss.
In a video message to her fans about losing weight, she explained that she’s always been very dedicated to fitness and has worked incredibly hard her entire life.
Beverley clarified that her amazing body is the result of dedication and effort, not weight loss injections.
She explained that she wouldn’t criticize anyone for getting vaccinated and encouraged people to make the best decision for their own health.
