CommuniCore Hall’s overlay for EPCOT Festival of the Holidays looks like a sad Macy’s display
As someone who has spent countless hours wandering the magical realms of Disney World, I must say, my dear fellow travelers, that CommuniCore Hall remains a sore spot in the otherwise enchanting landscape of EPCOT. The initial hype surrounding this space was as grand as Cinderella’s castle, yet alas, it has turned out to be more like an airport terminal lost in time, or perhaps a high school cafeteria on a particularly uninspiring day.
Since its summer opening, there’s been quite a buzz surrounding EPCOT’s Communicore Hall. Initially marketed as a place for visitors to unwind, a versatile spot to anchor our EPCOT Festivals, and everything in between, CommuniCore Hall held great potential “restricted solely by the boundaries of imagination.
Surprisingly, what unfolded was that Disney’s creative vision seemed rather confined. Upon the grand opening of CommuniCore, visitors were taken aback by its underwhelming and uninspired appearance. The interior bore striking resemblances to an airport lounge or a high school cafeteria.
The completed structure bore little resemblance to the vibrant and lively depictions in Disney’s initial artwork. Even though we anticipate adjustments between concept art and the final product, nobody could have predicted that the end result would appear so dull and devoid of life.
Initially, there was optimism that the building would be animated by EPCOT’s inaugural festival. However, when the Food and Wine Festival arrived, things took an unfortunate turn. The structure became cluttered with racks overflowing with festival merchandise, giving it a resemblance to a T.J. Maxx or typical department store.
At that juncture, it seemed almost certain that CommuniCore Hall wouldn’t meet the high anticipation and promises of its original unveiling.
This leads us to today, marking the commencement of the 2024 EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. Alongside this fresh celebration, there’s a new transformation for the previously contentious building area. Instead of resembling a department store, it now takes on an appearance as promotional space for Balsam Hill, a business specializing in artificial Christmas trees, wreaths, garlands, and assorted holiday embellishments.

The highlight of the space is Glittering Grove, an “enchanting forest of twinkling trees.” Either the enchantment has run off or someone chopped down this forest cause it’s a handful of trees with lights on them. It looks like a Macy’s holiday display.
Among the adornments, there stands an impressive eight-foot high Gingerbread Spaceship Earth, while holiday motifs such as snowflakes, gifts, and more grace the tables. The primary appeal of this space, apart from the tables and cooling air, lies in the Experimental Prototype Cookies of Tomorrow kitchen festival. Otherwise, it may leave you feeling underwhelmed.

It’s safe to say, CommuniCore Hall will never deliver on the promise of its concept art.
