Colossal Failure
In a casual manner, Asmongold frequently plays and discusses newly released games like Elden Ring and Baldur’s Gate 3 during live streams, expressing his opinions and engaging in lively debates with his audience when prompted.
On February 23, 2025, in a YouTube video titled “Avowed: A Mammoth Disappointment,” the content creator expressed his views about the latest open-world RPG.
In the opening of the video, he started by expressing his thoughts on a fellow gamer’s critique of Avowed, which was quite harsh towards Obsidian Entertainment’s new game release.
Following a brief spell of the review, Asmongold momentarily halts to delve deeply into his personal insights regarding Avowed. Initially, he expresses that the game seems devoid of significant events. Later, he admits that it left him feeling a dent in his ego and self-worth.
Topic starts at 7:15 minute mark
To tell you the truth, I missed quite a few things since I was new to playing games of this type. There were simply aspects that escaped my attention.
In response to a comment stating “It’s not a big deal, buddy”, Asmongold firmly stood by his feelings and explained why he was feeling so agitated.
In his explanation about Avowed, Asmongold said, “I thought I had a hunch about it, but as it turns out, my expectations were completely off the mark.
“I’m talking about 200% wrong. Completely f***ing wrong.”
Asmongold claims Avowed “is not made for guys”
The initial criticism didn’t cease; rather, during his subsequent discourse, the streamer expressed further opinions. He stated that the RPG wouldn’t have been crowned Game of the Year in 2011 and even suggested that Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, which was released in 2006, is a superior title compared to the one under discussion.
When investigating why Avowed hasn’t thrived and has been met with criticism from gamers, Asmongold suggested that the issue lies in the game not fitting the preferences or expectations of its target demographic.

“Let’s not forget the target audience; it’s guys. This game is not made for guys.”
To support his argument, he revisited the initial trailers for Avowed that had a more somber atmosphere and emphasized themes like “oaths, the crown, and duty,” which Asmongold claims was designed to appeal primarily to men, and suggested this approach should have been followed in the final version of the game.
Instead, he stated that what was released on February 15, 2025, was “not for guys.”
