The romantic drama Reminders of Him, featuring Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, is now available in the UK. The movie, based on Colleen Hoover’s 2022 novel of the same name, has received mixed reviews from critics.
The show features Monroe as Kenna Rowan, a woman recently released from prison attempting to rebuild her life. She served seven years for her involvement in a car crash that tragically killed her boyfriend, Scotty.
When Kenna returns home, she searches for her daughter, Diem, but is met with hostility from Scotty’s family and most of the town. The only person who offers her kindness is Ledger, a bar manager who sees beyond her difficult past.

After several delays, the film Reminders of Him, directed by Vanessa Caswill and written by Hoover and Lauren Levine, is now showing in UK cinemas, having been released on Friday, March 13th.
The movie’s cast features Monroe and Withers, along with Rudy Pankow, Lauren Graham, Bradley Whitford, Lainey Wilson, and Jennifer Robertson. Colleen Hoover, the author of popular books like It Ends with Us and Regretting You, is also a producer on the film.

Honestly, I’m starting to feel like all the focus on the sad stuff is overshadowing the love story. This is the third time we’ve seen this story on film, and it feels like each version gives us less and less to really enjoy in the romance department. It’s almost two hours long, but I’m just not getting as much out of it as I used to.
The Film Verdict
This new movie based on a popular Colleen Hoover novel benefits greatly from Maika Monroe’s performance. Her expressive eyes powerfully convey the sadness, pain, and disillusionment that the story tends to gloss over.
IndieWire
Although it’s not a guaranteed success, Vanessa Caswill’s film adaptation of Reminders of Him is the strongest Hoover story brought to the screen so far. It features compelling acting and focuses on genuine emotion, even though a troubled romance is also part of the story.

The Hollywood Reporter
Director Vanessa Caswill, along with screenwriters Lauren Levine and Hoover, skillfully draw you into the emotional story. The characters are likable and well-acted, which makes it even easier to get invested.
Little White Lies
Although It Ends With Us and Regretting You had some quality acting and production, Reminders of Him is overwhelmingly bleak and focuses heavily on trauma, made worse by a poor performance from the main actor and a noticeable conservative bias.
Reminders of Him is out now in UK cinemas.
