Chuck Norris Embraced His New Larger Than Life Persona
Once people started sharing stories about Chuck Norris, he quickly found out about them. Fortunately, he took it all in stride and even admitted the jokes were funny. During an appearance on ESPN’s The Best Damn Sports Show Period, he emphasized that he thought the whole thing was lighthearted and even revealed his favorite joke.
People suggested adding Chuck Norris to Mount Rushmore, but the stone wasn’t strong enough to support his beard.
After becoming a viral meme, the action star cleverly embraced the attention and sought to regain control of his image. What better way to do that than by joining Sylvester Stallone’s popular Expendables series? Stallone launched the star-packed franchise in 2010, bringing together a remarkable cast of action heroes like Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jet Li, and Terry Crews. The first film’s success quickly led to plans for a sequel, with Stallone aiming to make it even bigger by adding more major stars. The Expendables 2, released in 2012, did just that, featuring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Liam Hemsworth, and, notably, Chuck Norris.

It was cool seeing Van Damme play a bad guy, and that little detail about Lundgren’s character having a chemical engineering degree? That’s a fun nod to Dolph Lundgren’s actual education. And The Expendables 2 totally came through by adding Chuck Norris to the mix – it was everything I hoped for!

Chuck Norris wasn’t a regular team member in the film; he played a mysterious character known as The Lone Wolf, or Booker. Whenever Stallone and his crew found themselves in a tough spot, running out of ammo, Booker would suddenly appear and take out the enemy with incredible speed and precision, often destroying a tank in seconds. Initially, the team was baffled by what was happening, but Booker would confidently stride out of hiding, accompanied by classic western music. A brief scene between Stallone and Norris emphasized Booker’s reputation as a one-man army. The film then playfully expands on the legend when Stallone asks Booker about a rumor that he’d been bitten by a cobra, prompting Norris to famously wink at the audience.
