Fans are getting an update on the first spin-off sequel to The Big Bang Theory as everyone eagerly awaits its release date. Chuck Lorre, the creator of the original show that premiered in 2007, is continuing to build the comedy universe with Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. This new series, set to air in the 2025-2026 TV season, will add another chapter to the show’s ongoing story.
With Young Sheldon already having explored Sheldon’s childhood, the new series Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is continuing to diverge from the storylines established in The Big Bang Theory. This is partly because Georgie and Mandy weren’t major characters in the original show. Creator Chuck Lorre plans to return to the world of The Big Bang Theory with Stuart Fails to Save the Universe, which will be the first spin-off to directly connect back to the original series.
As a huge fan of The Big Bang Theory and especially Kevin Sussman, I was thrilled to see on his Instagram that they’ve officially finished filming Stuart Fails to Save the Universe! He posted a picture from the wrap party, which is super cute. It’s a little different though – this time around, the show will be streaming on HBO Max instead of being part of the usual CBS lineup. We don’t have a release date yet, but I’m already excited to see what Stuart gets up to!
HBO Max hasn’t officially started promoting Stuart Fails to Save the Universe yet. We only got a quick glimpse of the show in a larger trailer showcasing upcoming content for the streaming service. The footage showed Stuart back at his comic shop and Bert seemingly on fire, but without any explanation of what was happening. However, it seems likely that the scene with Bert takes place in one of the show’s many alternate realities.
Okay, so we’re still waiting on an official date, but the fact that they’ve wrapped filming on Stuart Saves the Universe is a really good sign – it suggests a release isn’t too far off. Now, this show is going to require a lot of post-production work, especially given its ambitious premise. It’s a much bigger visual effects undertaking than anything we’ve seen in The Big Bang Theory universe before – the other shows were all pretty down-to-earth. But honestly, the end of filming is huge news, and it means fans are closer than ever to finally seeing this new series.
Now that CBS didn’t get the rights to Stuart Saves the Universe, the show has more flexibility in its release date. If it were airing on traditional TV, like other shows in The Big Bang Theory universe, it would likely premiere in the fall of 2026 or 2027. It would also probably have a full season of more than 10 episodes, as that’s how many have already been produced. Even with these changes, a continuation of The Big Bang Theory is still exciting news for fans who enjoyed the original series.
