The first look at Charlize Theron and Robert Pattinson’s characters has arrived in a new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated film, The Odyssey.
The new movie, directed and written by Christopher Nolan, tells the story of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon. It’s inspired by Homer’s classic Greek poem.
Okay, so this new movie comes out on July 17th, and it’s about Odysseus – you know, the king of Ithaca? It basically tells the story of his insane ten-year trip back home after everything went down at Troy. It sounds epic!

The latest trailer offers the first look at Charlize Theron as Calypso, a legendary nymph who saves Odysseus after his ship is wrecked, but then imprisons him for years.
The trailer shows Damon as Odysseus adrift in the ocean amongst shipwreck debris, as Theron’s character asks him, “Tell me what you remember?”

The film then features Robert Pattinson as Antinous, the main villain, who is trying to steal Odysseus’s throne by marrying Penelope.
Anne Hathaway plays Penelope, who is trying to avoid unwanted marriage proposals, and Tom Holland plays her son, Telemachus.
Okay, the trailer ended with a really epic glimpse of Odysseus’s journey back home, and it looks intense. We’re talking huge battles, a giant monster, and even a massive whirlpool! And then Odysseus says this amazing line – “No one can stand between me and home. Not even the gods.” Seriously, it gave me chills! It really sets the stage for how determined he is to get back to his family.
The film boasts a stellar cast, featuring Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, Bill Irwin, Elliot Page, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, and Will Yun Lee.

Tom Holland recently told GQ that the film is a true masterpiece, and he believes that assessment is independent of his own involvement. He described Chris Nolan’s movie as fantastic and completely unique – unlike anything he’s ever experienced.
Watching that movie made me wonder how certain things were filmed – it’s a question I haven’t had about a film in years.
We’ve gotten used to incredible visual effects in movies and TV, and we generally assume talented artists and technicians create them using computers.
The Odyssey is released in cinemas on 17 July.
The latest issue of Living Legends is available now! This 100-page, full-color magazine celebrates the incredible Sir David Attenborough. You can find it at newsstands or order it online.
