It’s been over ten years since James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy helped launch Chris Pratt’s film career, and Pratt believes they’ll work together again. This is despite Gunn now working for DC Comics instead of Marvel. They’ve previously collaborated on the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, its two sequels, and a holiday special.
Chris Pratt, known for playing Peter Quill/Star-Lord in the Marvel superhero films, has been rumored to join James Gunn’s DC Universe. Gunn is known for working with actors he’s friends with, and Pratt recently discussed the possibility of becoming Batman. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Pratt revealed he jokingly sent Gunn a photoshopped picture of himself wearing a Batman mask. Gunn’s response? Just a simple ‘Haha.’
Pratt jokingly admitted he wasn’t going to be cast as Batman, adding with sarcasm that he didn’t even want the role. While he had contacted James Gunn about the possibility, he clarified that it was never a realistic opportunity.
Pratt acknowledged the challenge of taking on the role of Batman, given the many actors who have played him before. He explained that it’s difficult to know how to approach the character, especially considering that even Christian Bale’s iconic voice now feels a bit like a parody. Pratt believes a completely new take is needed to reinvent the role.
It’s definitely a challenge, but something special about getting to play Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy was being the first one to bring that character to life on screen. It means you’re always going to be measured against everyone who’s played the role before, and after a while, that comparison just gets old. It’s a really hard job for any actor. Still, I think there are some performers out there who could absolutely nail it.
Chris Pratt is willing to consider joining James Gunn’s DC Universe in some capacity. While he’s eager to collaborate with Gunn again, another Guardians of the Galaxy movie seems unlikely. Pratt hasn’t shared what role he’d ideally like to play in the DCU, though.
Pratt explained that he enjoys keeping things a bit ambiguous, saying, ‘It would be great to be able to maintain that sense of mystery.’ He suggested there are roles he and others might be considering, adding, ‘I think there are some possibilities we both have in mind.’ However, he was quick to clarify he’s not intentionally being evasive, stating, ‘I do like to be mysterious and keep people guessing, but honestly, I really don’t know what’s going to happen.’
Chris Pratt said he’d enjoy working with the director of Guardians of the Galaxy again. He’s potentially open to joining the DC Universe, but his ongoing role with Marvel, and hints about bringing back Star-Lord, might keep him busy.
