After almost three years since it was first announced, there’s a major update on Extraction 3, the sequel starring Chris Hemsworth. Filming for the action movie, which hasn’t had much news since June 2023, is now scheduled to start later in 2024.
According to What’s On Netflix, filming for the next movie in the action series is set to start in June and wrap up around October 9th.
The next installment of the film series will feature Chris Hemsworth’s character, Tyler Rake, in Australia, with filming currently taking place in Sydney. Originally, the sequel was planned to be filmed there in 2021, but COVID-19 lockdowns caused production to move to Prague instead.

The report indicates production will begin in Europe sometime this summer, but the specific location and timing haven’t been confirmed yet.
Chris Hemsworth isn’t the only familiar face coming back for the new movie – Sam Hargrave is directing again. The Russo Brothers, famous for their Marvel films, will produce, and Joe Russo is likely to write the screenplay.

I’m really hoping we get another Extraction movie! Last year, Chris Hemsworth hinted at it in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. He said he’s feeling the urge to play Tyler Rake again – basically, he’s ready to get back into action and they’re actively working on making it happen. It’s great to hear!
Our team is exploring several ideas for the future of the series, including potential directions for a third movie. We definitely plan to make another film, though we don’t have a specific timeline yet, but it’s in the works.
Building on the popularity of the first two movies, Netflix revealed in August 2025 that it’s creating a spin-off series called Mercenary: An Extraction Series.

Omar Sy, Natalie Dormer, and Boyd Holbrook will star in the series. The story centers on Kalidou Diallo, a mercenary played by Sy, who takes on a risky mission to save hostages in Libya.
The new series follows a man caught in a brutal conflict, forcing him to make difficult decisions and deal with his own painful past. It delves into the trauma, deceit, and ethical dilemmas faced by characters struggling to survive, according to a description from Tudum.
I’m so excited that both Extraction and its follow-up are now on Netflix! But unfortunately, we’re still waiting to find out when Extraction 3 and the new series, Mercenary, will be released.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-color 100-page magazine dedicated to Harry Styles, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
