Charli XCX is accused of song ‘theft’ as collaborator Sky Ferreira claims parts of Wuthering Heights soundtrack are based on her unreleased demos and says ‘I have proof of everything’

Charli XCX is facing accusations that she used unreleased demos by another female artist on her new album, Wuthering Heights, without getting permission.

Florence Pugh’s song for the new movie version of Wuthering Heights, which came out in February and stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, has reached number one in the UK charts. This adds to the 33-year-old British singer’s growing list of hits.

Singer Sky Ferreira, who generally keeps to herself, says that at least two songs on the new album were taken from demos she recorded but never released.

Thirty-three-year-old Ferreira responded on Instagram after a fan shared a clip from her 2012 music video, ‘Everything Is Embarrassing,’ on X (formerly Twitter). Someone commented on the post, questioning how she makes a living.

She replied to the post, saying someone had shared the user’s X (formerly Twitter) account with her. She explained that she’s a touring and working musician, and surprisingly revealed that the user’s favorite artist actually records covers of her older songs. She ended by saying she hoped that clarified things.

As someone who’s been in the music industry a while, let me tell you, sometimes you just have to speak up. I worked on Kate Bush’s ‘Eyes of the World’ – I was a featured artist, co-writer, and even helped with the vocals – and honestly, I’d been keeping quiet about everything. But I’ve reached a point where I’m not going to tolerate being unfairly attacked and put through that anymore. It’s time to move on.

This brought up a lot of painful memories I’ve tried to overcome. I felt like I had to deal with everything on my own. For over a decade, my life was incredibly difficult and became a source of public embarrassment.

It’s not amusing when people disrespect or try to take advantage of me, or when they twist things around based on what they think they know about me. I feel powerless to do anything about it. I generally keep to myself, so I don’t understand why there’s always so much drama.

The singer released her only album, the well-received ‘Night Time, My Time,’ in 2013. Since then, she’s only released three singles.

The band’s second album, called Masochist, has faced many setbacks since it was first announced in 2015, and still doesn’t have a confirmed release date.

She stated she doesn’t want to be bothered or harassed, and she’s concerned that others’ actions could negatively impact her and the release of her album. She emphasized that she is a truthful person.

These days, people seem more interested in stories that feel good or are thrilling than in what’s actually true. I’m relieved to be able to put this behind me and focus on the future.

Meanwhile, Charli’s management team has issued a statement in response to Sky’s comments.

Charli has released seven albums, four mixtapes, and one EP, and has also written songs for many other artists over the course of her career, as she shared with Billboard.

She started her career as a songwriter with the song ‘I Love It,’ and since then, various artists have recorded or considered her work.

Having been through the publishing process herself, she really understands what it takes and always makes sure everyone gets the recognition they deserve. Before the release of the ‘Wuthering Heights’ album, a few tracks – including some pieces from older recording sessions – went through the usual review process.

The project brought together managers, lawyers, artists, and producers, and required a detailed look at old files and demo tracks.

We made sure to get input from everyone involved, and shared the entire album with them before it came out.

Everyone involved collaboratively decided who wrote the song and how the royalties would be divided, based on written records of when and how each person contributed.

The album was released only after everyone who needed to sign off on it had given their final approval.
