Channel Seven reporter quits and reveals surprising career change as he reflects on job ‘pressure and chaos’

Mitchell Sariovski, a newsreader at Channel Seven in Adelaide, is leaving his role at the end of April to pursue a career in the hospitality industry.

The 28-year-old father of two announced his surprising career change on social media on Wednesday.

After five years as a news reporter, Sariovski is leaving the journalism field to focus on running his Original Pancake Kitchen franchise.

He announced on Instagram that he was leaving 7News, marking the end of a journey that began with a childhood passion for photography.

He shared with his followers that he’d always dreamed of working in broadcast news, recalling how he even sold his car as a teen to afford a camera.

Looking back, that moment was truly my launching pad – the first time I really dove headfirst into the life I’d always dreamed of. I gave it absolutely everything I had, holding nothing back, and it felt amazing.

When I first started trying to get into television fifteen years ago, I did a work experience placement at Channel 7 in Adelaide. They told me I was too eager and didn’t ask me to return.

‘I left thinking the dream had ended before it even began. But it didn’t.

I returned and started working as a reporter, and it was everything I’d always wanted – challenging stories, a fast-paced environment, and amazing colleagues who made it all worthwhile. It’s difficult to move on from such a fulfilling experience, but I know it’s the right time.

‘Now, it’s about my family – my fiancé Lauren, and our boys, Jett and Arlo.’

He expressed his gratitude to viewers in South Australia for their support, and shared that while he’ll still be on TV for the rest of the month, he’ll be leaving at the end of it.

‘After that… the only deadlines will be pancakes on plates, not news on screens.’

Jasmin Teurlings, a reporter with Seven News Adelaide, was one of many people who left supportive comments on Sariovski’s social media post.

“Take care, Mitch,” she said. “You’re amazing at this—no one handles a pursuit quite like you. Congratulations on a fantastic job.”

One viewer shared, “We’re going to miss you on television! You’ve been a fantastic reporter, and we wish you the very best in the future.”

‘You will be missed,’ said a third fan.

Mitchell became a franchise owner of The Original Pancake Kitchen in December 2024, as shown on his LinkedIn profile.

Established in Adelaide in 1965, this popular brand now has four locations across the city, with restaurants in both the city center and Port Adelaide.

Sariovski began his career at NBN Television in Lismore as a reporter in 2017.

He started his journalism career with Seven in Lismore, reporting local news. He then transferred to Albury, where he covered police news for the network.

I’ve been following his career for a while now, and after a short time at Nine, he came back to Seven in 2021. He’s been happily reporting from Adelaide ever since, and it seems like he’s really settled in there!
