It’s all coming back to Celine Dion.
Celine Dion might start performing concerts again this fall, according to Variety. She had to cancel her 2022 tour because of muscle spasms, and later shared that she has stiff-person syndrome, a rare condition affecting the nervous system, which made it impossible for her to perform.
Fans are buzzing about a possible return to the stage for Céline Dion, after posters featuring her song titles like “Power of Love” and “Pour Que tu M’aimes Encore” appeared in Paris. According to a report in the Montreal newspaper La Presse, Dion is expected to perform around two concerts a week in September and October at the 40,000-seat Paris La Défense Arena.
Celine Dion hasn’t performed a full concert of her own since her 2020 Courage World Tour, which had to be canceled because of health problems. She recently moved audiences with a heartfelt rendition of Édith Piaf’s “Hymne à l’amour” at the 2024 Olympics closing ceremony. Before that, in November, she sang “I’m Alive” and “The Power of Love” at a fashion show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Music
Despite her health challenges, Céline Dion is committed to performing again. She’s motivated by her love for her sons and her passion for music.
Celine Dion shared her struggle with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) in her 2024 documentary, “I Am: Celine Dion.” The film reveals she had been dealing with health problems for 17 years before finally receiving a diagnosis. SPS impacted her singing by tightening her vocal cords, which made her voice sound different and more nasal.
In her documentary, Dion shared that she would often have the audience sing along with her. She also jokingly admitted to sometimes blaming the microphone for any mistakes by tapping it, as if it were the source of the problem.
Despite her health diagnosis, the singer shared in her documentary that she planned to keep making music, as it was her passion.
“If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl, but I won’t stop.”
Representatives for Dion didn’t respond to requests for comment, and La Défense Arena also declined to comment.
