Many well-known celebrities are mourning the loss of Catherine O’Hara, who passed away on Friday at 71 years old.
The actress died peacefully at her Los Angeles home after a short illness, according to the Daily Mail. The specific reason for her death has not been made public.
I’ve been a huge fan of Catherine O’Hara for years! Most people probably remember her as Kevin McCallister’s mom in the first two Home Alone movies, which were classics. But for me, she really shined as Moira Rose on Schitt’s Creek. She was absolutely brilliant in that role, and I was so thrilled when she finally won her Emmy in 2020 – it was so well-deserved!
The actress also appeared in popular films like Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Best in Show, and A Mighty Wind.
More recently, she starred as Patty Leigh in Apple TV+’s The Studio.
The celebrated actress worked with many of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and numerous colleagues shared heartfelt tributes online after her passing.
Pedro Pascal, who appeared with the actress in the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us, shared a post on Instagram.
Being close to you was a gift, and I’ll always be thankful. The world feels a little dimmer now that you’re gone, but I’ll cherish the memory of having you in it forever. Always and always, I’ll remember you. ❤️
Ugh, he finished his post with the most perfect caption EVER: ‘The one and ONLY Catherine O’Hara!’ And then… a picture! A seriously adorable picture of him and her hugging! I swear, they’re just the cutest, and he knows how to make my day. It’s everything!
Justin Theroux, a co-star of Kate O’Hara in the 2024 movie Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, posted a photo of her chair from the set, which had her name on it.
‘Oh Catherine. You will be so so missed,’ he simply wrote.
Hilaria Baldwin honored the actor by posting a throwback Instagram story. It showed a behind-the-scenes interview from the 1988 film Beetlejuice featuring both O’Hara and her husband, Alec Baldwin.
The overlaid caption read: ‘Rest in peace. Rip Catherine O’Hara. Legend.’
Comedian Tom Green, famous for his work in movies like ‘Road Trip’ and his show ‘The Tom Green Show,’ shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he was saddened to learn of the passing of Canadian comedy icon Catherine O’Hara, who was 71 years old.
Throughout my life, and for millions of others, she’s been a constant source of entertainment. Her incredible talent shines through in classics like SCTV, Home Alone, Beetlejuice, Best in Show, and Schitt’s Creek, among many other beloved movies and TV shows.
Catherine O’Hara brought immense happiness and laughter to so many, and it’s with deep sadness that I share the news of her passing. She was a truly remarkable Canadian comedy legend, and will be greatly missed.
