Celebrities, beware! Ex-Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller is writing an ‘explosive’ warts-and-all memoir of his five decades in showbiz. Insiders tell KATIE HIND why he’s doing it – and which stars have most to fear

Despite being incredibly successful in the entertainment industry, Simon Fuller – standing at 5’8″ with brown hair – remains surprisingly unknown to many. He’s a powerful figure who somehow stays out of the spotlight.

Although he’s worth around £450 million and incredibly successful in showbusiness, he’s a very down-to-earth person – you probably wouldn’t notice him in a crowd. This is quite different from his famous rival, Simon Cowell, who is instantly recognizable.

Everything might be different soon. Fuller, age 65, is getting ready to share surprising news that will probably make him much more well-known.

Simon Fuller, the man who helped launch the careers of stars like the Spice Girls, S Club 7, Amy Winehouse, Andy Murray, and Lewis Hamilton, is writing a brutally honest autobiography about his 45 years working in the entertainment industry.

I’m hearing buzz about a new book that’s set to be huge. Apparently, the author just landed a publishing deal and is working on it right now! What’s got everyone talking isn’t just the book itself, but who it might be about. Let’s just say a lot of celebrities are starting to sweat, because it sounds like some pretty big secrets could be coming to light. It’s definitely creating a stir in the celebrity world, and everyone’s on edge!

According to a source, Simon is diligently working on his book. News of the project has spread among his former colleagues, sparking a lot of discussion. While his work appears glamorous to the public, the reality behind the scenes is more complex.

Why reveal this information now, after keeping it secret for so long? One likely reason is that he might need money for a costly divorce, even with his wealth.

Following rumors of a split, actor Oliver Jackson-Cohen’s wife, Natalie Swanston, 45, filed for divorce in the United States last year, stating they had differences that couldn’t be resolved.

Despite having a prenuptial agreement, the couple – who married nearly 17 years ago in a glamorous California ceremony – is expected to face a financial dispute as they separate.

Reports suggest he might have to pay his three daughters’ mother up to £200 million. Because of this, he could be tempted to reveal details about his relationships. According to a source, the book needs to be sensational to be successful, and he has plenty of interesting stories to tell.

That’s true. People who know him say he can be incredibly charming, but also quite harsh at times.

This situation has sparked major disagreements, and understandably, some well-known people are worried about the book’s content. In fact, sources say some are genuinely afraid of what it might reveal.

Fuller was the manager who helped the Spice Girls become world-famous. He also collaborated with Victoria and David Beckham to build their ‘Posh and Becks’ image.

Simon Fuller created the incredibly popular talent show formats Pop Idol and American Idol. American Idol is still a massive hit after 26 seasons, and has launched the careers of stars like Kelly Clarkson and Will Young.

Simon Cowell is likely to be mentioned in Fuller’s upcoming book, stemming from their contentious legal dispute back in 2004.

One of the most intense conflicts in entertainment history began when Simon Fuller sued Simon Cowell for £100 million. Fuller claimed that Cowell’s new show, The X Factor (which debuted on ITV), copied elements from Fuller’s earlier talent competitions, shows Cowell had previously judged with Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.

The legal dispute was resolved in 2005 with an agreement: The X Factor wouldn’t be broadcast in the US before 2011. If it did air, Simon Fuller would receive credit as an executive producer, acknowledging his initial concepts for the show.

Additionally, Fuller confirmed that Cowell had agreed to continue as a judge on American Idol for five more seasons.

The tension between them didn’t end there. When The X Factor began its American launch in 2011, with Paula Abdul as a judge, Simon Fuller filed a lawsuit against Fox and Fremantle, Rupert Murdoch’s TV network and the show’s producers, respectively. He claimed he had a contract guaranteeing him the role of executive producer and a corresponding payment.

Again, they reached a confidential settlement but sources tell me it left ‘a lot of bad blood’.

As a long-time observer of the entertainment industry, I always sensed a real rivalry between Simon Cowell and Louis Fuller. I understood Fuller believed Cowell was directly imitating his work. It was a firm rule with Louis – he simply wouldn’t work with anyone Simon had already brought on board for his projects. He saw it as a matter of principle and protecting his unique vision.

Although time has moved on, the past was incredibly difficult for everyone involved. While the legal issues are now resolved, they left a lasting sense of anger and resentment on all sides.

In 2011, the conflict between Cowell and Fuller escalated when Cowell publicly called Fuller a coward. He explained in an interview that he believes a handshake should be considered a binding agreement, stating, ‘If you shake hands with someone, that’s a deal, plain and simple.’

It’s better to know someone is being dishonest with you directly than to have them betray your trust and then lie about it. I’d prefer someone be upfront, even if it means telling me they’re going to hurt me, rather than being deceitful.

Rumors have circulated for years that Simon Cowell was envious of Simon Fuller’s success with the Spice Girls – a success that established Fuller as a leading figure in the music industry. Cowell famously rejected the group, and while there’s speculation about his feelings, Fuller has never publicly addressed these claims.

According to a source, details about disagreements with Simon Cowell would be a major selling point. People are very interested in Cowell, and few individuals have worked as closely with him as the person known as the “Other Simon.”

The story behind their falling out is likely to be incredibly interesting, and it’s easy to understand why publishers were so eager to publish Simon’s book. He’s collaborated with some of the most famous celebrities in Britain.

David and Victoria Beckham were among those connected to Fuller, and were once very close to him. He reportedly admired them greatly, and also profited significantly from the money they earned over their almost twenty-year working relationship.

Fuller was closely involved in handling the public relations surrounding David Beckham, including reports of a relationship between David and his former assistant, Rebecca Loos, during his time with Real Madrid. He developed the plan that helped David and Victoria navigate the scandal with minimal lasting damage to their reputations.

As a lifestyle expert, I remember when David Beckham’s move to the LA Galaxy was a huge moment! I was right there watching as things came together, and honestly, it wouldn’t have happened without Fuller. He was absolutely key in making that deal – and the Beckhams’ relocation to California in 2007 – a reality.

But this was another relationship that ended acrimoniously.

A disagreement in 2018 – details of which cannot be publicly shared for legal reasons – led to the couple separating from Simon Fuller in 2019. Currently, their only link is Fuller’s continued ownership of shares in Victoria’s fashion business. A source close to the situation says, ‘Simon was always around David and Victoria and knows a lot about what goes on. He’s aware they don’t prioritize their relationship with him anymore.’

I’m told a non-disclosure agreement would have been put in place when their professional relationship ended, but that may not prevent him from ‘telling his truth’.

Born into a comfortable, middle-class family in Hastings, East Sussex, Fuller started his career in show business in 1981 at Chrysalis Music. There, he notably signed Madonna’s early hit, “Holiday,” to the company.

After just four years, he launched his own company, 19 Entertainment (now known as XIX). Ten years after that, he hit it big with the Spice Girls, a success that will likely provide plenty of stories for his upcoming book.

No one is better placed to dish the dirt on their early days than Fuller.

Rumors circulated that he’d grown close to Emma Bunton, famously known as ‘Baby Spice’. He was also present during a brief relationship between Geri and Mel B, which Mel B revealed in a 2019 interview with Piers Morgan. However, Geri has strongly denied that any romance occurred.

By 1997, growing frustration with his harsh leadership – he often compared himself to a strict military leader – led to his dismissal.

According to someone who worked with the band, Simon was clearly upset about being fired. The real reason for his departure was never fully explained, but it might come to light now. He was a central figure during the band’s most successful period.

It was Fuller who went on to organise the Spice Girls’ two reunions to date, in 2008 and 2019.

He’s trying to reunite the group for a new tour, and he met with Geri last year to discuss it.

Hollywood stars may have to watch their backs, too.

Simon Fuller became well-known for his incredibly successful talent shows. He helped launch Paula Abdul’s television career by bringing her on as a judge for ‘American Idol’ in 2002.

It’s unclear what he will say regarding the claim that she had a relationship with a contestant, which Abdul firmly denied.

I’ve always admired the creative partnerships that blossom in the entertainment industry, and one that really stands out is the one between Nigel Lythgoe – known as ‘Nasty Nigel’ to those in the know – and a very talented individual. Together, they dreamed up ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ a fantastic talent show that quickly became a hit, and was brilliantly hosted by the lovely Cat Deeley. It’s a testament to what happens when great minds – and personalities! – come together.

As my snitch points out: ‘Hollywood needs to watch out, too.’

And the world of sport is not immune to Fuller’s opportunity for gossip, either.

Starting in 2009, he became Sir Andy Murray’s representative, guiding him through his victories at Wimbledon and the US Open. He also assisted Murray in launching his sports management company, 77, a name chosen to commemorate Britain’s 77-year gap between men’s singles Wimbledon championships.

Fuller later brought Formula One superstar Lewis Hamilton under his wing.

Lewis was dating Nicole Scherzinger, a singer from the Pussycat Dolls, who later became a judge on Simon Cowell’s show, The X Factor.

According to one insider, Simon is exceptionally knowledgeable in his field. It’s entirely his choice what information he shares and what he keeps private.
