Catherine Zeta-Jones, 56, and husband Michael Douglas, 81, ‘slash the price of their $12M New York mansion’ – two years after putting the lavish property on the market

Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas have lowered the price of their New York mansion by a significant $2.25 million. The home was originally listed for $12 million.

The Welsh actress, age 56, and the 81-year-old American actor initially listed their 1920s riverside home for sale in 2024. The house features eight bedrooms, ten bathrooms, and a pool.

After initially trying to sell the property without success, the couple has lowered the asking price to $9.75 million, as reported by IG Mansions.

Despite the possible sale, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas could still make a profit of $3.25 million. Records show Zeta-Jones originally purchased the property in 2019 for $4.5 million.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas, seeking a statement.

This 12,000 square foot home in the small village of Irvington, New York – just 20 miles from New York City – features a large, picturesque lawn with about 130 feet of river frontage.

The property also features a large, 100-foot terrace at the back with views of the river, making it perfect for hosting gatherings when the weather is nice.

Built in the 1920s, this large home has a classic Georgian design with a beautiful brick and stone exterior. It offers over 12,000 square feet of living space.

As you drive up the long, private driveway to the estate, you’ll be greeted by a stunning entrance framed by graceful white columns.

Compass realtor David Turner previously mentioned that the couple updated the house with significant renovations, but they were careful to preserve its original historical charm.

Catherine told the Wall Street Journal that she and her husband decided to sell the house because their children had grown up and moved out, and they wanted to enjoy spending time in other places.

I’ve always admired Michael and Catherine’s family. They have two wonderful children together, Dylan and Carys, who are now grown up at 25 and 23. And it’s lovely to remember that Michael also has an older son, Cameron, who’s 47, from his previous marriage to Diandra Morrell. It’s a blended family, and they all seem so close!

Michael and Diandra were married for nearly two decades, from 1977 to 1995, but their divorce took another five years to become official, finalizing in 2000.

Catherine Zeta-Jones said she always imagined her family making wonderful memories in their Irvington home, and they did! With both of her children now grown and moved out, she feels it’s the perfect time to sell the house.

She mentioned she’d been traveling to Europe frequently for work lately, and she and Michael anticipated spending less time in the US as a result.

‘Michael and I plan to spend more time in Bermuda and Europe,’ she said.

According to the book Irvington (Then And Now) by Anne Marie Leone and Judith Doolin Spikes, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, this mansion—now home to a famous couple—was once owned by the wealthy Matthiessen family, who made their fortune in the sugar trade.

In 1902, Conrad Matthiessen purchased a 50-acre property next door that once belonged to Charles Lewis Tiffany, the founder of Tiffany & Co. The estate currently owned by Douglas and Zeta-Jones was later created from these combined properties.
