Dan Levy became emotional recalling his “Schitt’s Creek” co-star and onscreen mother, Catherine O’Hara, who sadly passed away on January 30th at the age of 71 due to a blood clot in her lungs.
When asked about a possible continuation of Schitt’s Creek, 42-year-old actor and son of Eugene Levy told CBS News Sunday Morning, ‘No, not right now. It’s just not possible.’
She was at a shop near Goodwood – the same one used as the exterior for David’s Rose Apothecary on the show – and had been thinking about continuing the series before she died.
‘It’s tough. It’s tough being back,’ the Canadian actor-showrunner cried.
I wasn’t expecting to feel so emotional. It just brought back a lot of memories—so many memories of Catherine. Those memories are all you really have to cherish.
CBS News’ Anthony Mason added: ‘And an incredible clip reel.’
‘Listen, for someone who was not on the internet, she knew how to meme,’ Levy agreed.
As someone who keeps a close eye on what’s trending in entertainment and lifestyle, I have to say, Schitt’s Creek was a real gem! I loved watching it unfold over its six seasons on Pop TV, from 2015 to 2020. It was amazing to see the incredible chemistry between Catherine O’Hara and her co-creator and co-star – a four-time Emmy winner – playing opposite each other. They really brought those characters to life!
The Canadian comedian, who was battling rectal cancer, last appeared in public looking very weak at the Angel Awards in Santa Monica on October 16th.
I’m absolutely heartbroken. It’s just… she leaves behind the most wonderful husband, Bo Welch – a four-time Oscar nominee, can you believe it? I always loved his work, and they met on the set of Beetlejuice back in ’87! It was such a magical film, and it brought them together. And their sons, Matthew and Luke… 31 and 28. Just thinking about them now… it’s devastating. They must be so lost right now. She was such a proud mom, always talking about them.
Though she recently appeared in Apple TV’s The Studio and HBO’s The Last of Us, the two-time Emmy winner is most beloved for her comedic roles in SCTV, the Home Alone movies, and the funny mockumentaries directed by Christopher Guest.
Levy’s new TV show, Big Mistakes, is a comedy about a family that’s a bit of a mess. It starts streaming on Netflix this Thursday.
The new eight-part crime comedy features the actor known for playing a Smurf as Nicky, a pastor hiding a secret. He’s forced to work with criminals, and his sister (Taylor Ortega) gets caught up in it too.
The founder of Not a Real Production Company said they didn’t want their show to be compared to Schitt’s Creek.
I doubt that’s possible. You need to set firm boundaries around that issue and be okay with the idea that if it’s the most important thing, that’s great. But everything else should be about what makes me happy.
The cast of Big Mistakes includes Laurie Metcalf, Jack Innanen, Boran Kuzum, Abby Quinn, Elizabeth Perkins, and Josh Fadem.
