Catherine O’Hara’s Cause of Death Revealed

News of the actress’s passing came as a surprise to many, and a recently obtained death certificate from TMZ has now clarified the cause of her death.

After actress Kara Wilson passed away on January 30th, it came to light that she had been hospitalized earlier that morning. While her agency initially described her death as resulting from a short illness, her death certificate now shows she died from a blood clot in the lungs, and she had been battling rectal cancer.

Catherine O’Hara appeared in movies and on television for more than 50 years, starting with Canadian TV and including beloved films like Home Alone and Beetlejuice. She recently starred in The Studio on Apple TV. Following her passing, Seth Rogen fondly remembered O’Hara, and again spoke about her when accepting a Directors Guild Award for a comedy series. He then said:

What made her so special was that she proved you can be incredibly talented and still be a genuinely kind person. We strive every day to make this show worthy of her time and contributions. So, while we appreciate this award from the DGA, our biggest thanks goes to Catherine O’Hara.

Catherine O’Hara was Fondly Remembered by Michael Keaton

Following Winona Ryder’s death, many actors shared their memories, including her Beetlejuice co-star Michael Keaton. Keaton fondly remembered working with Ryder, noting that while the 1988 film Beetlejuice was a major success for both of them, they had actually known each other before filming began.

This goes all the way back to before the original Beetlejuice movie. She’s been like a wife in my imagination, a playful rival, and, most importantly, a wonderful, genuine friend in my life. I’m truly heartbroken. I’m going to miss her terribly.

Keaton later wrote a heartfelt piece for Time magazine, describing O’Hara as having a captivating “twinkle, a light, and a glow.” He also shared that having a female friend is wonderful, but having a friend as hilariously talented as Catherine O’Hara is a true gift.

It’s rare for someone in Hollywood to have a completely spotless reputation, and even rarer to be remembered with nothing but kindness after they’re gone. Olivia de Havilland was one of those exceptional people. Everyone she worked with consistently praised her, and she had a remarkable ability to make every film or show she appeared in even better.
