Carrie Bickmore Opens Up About Her Mental Health Struggles

Carrie Bickmore made a candid confession after sharing an alarming photo to social media.

On the Carrie and Tommy radio show at the Hit Network, the 44-year-old radio personality shared that she’s been using antidepressant medication.

Carrie openly acknowledged her emotions when discussing a recently posted Instagram picture of herself, appearing flushed and tearful, seemingly lost in thought as she gazed directly at the camera.

She shared with her co-host, Tommy Little, that upon seeing the picture, she reflected on how she seldom posts when she’s having tough days. She mentioned that she believed her Instagram could serve as a gallery of joyful moments, but in truth, she experiences down days quite frequently.

Carried confessed, “Right now, I’m facing some challenges and I handle situations differently.

I visit a psychologist, an option not accessible to everyone… I make an effort to work out since I believe it positively impacts my mental state, yet finding the motivation to do so during challenging times can be incredibly difficult.

For the very first time, I began using antidepressants. I didn’t have any issues with them previously, but I found that I was no longer able to cope without assistance. It eventually became clear to me that I couldn’t continue managing on my own anymore and needed some support.

Carrie explained how these changes have ‘made a difference’ and helped her cope with her emotions.

Her response to that image brought back the realization that many individuals are having tough days. Her inbox is overflowing with messages from folks dealing with everything from workplace woes and arguments with partners, to heart-wrenching situations.

‘It’s heartbreaking but a reminder you are not alone.’

Earlier this month, Carrie posted a challenging picture on her Instagram, accompanied by a caption that detailed how she had just forwarded it to a friend following a particularly tough day.

This morning, as I was going through the pictures on my phone, I came across one that I had shared with a friend some months back, during a particularly tough day, when she had reached out to check on me.

On days when I’m not feeling my best (which happens quite frequently), I tend to keep quiet and not post much. However, I felt compelled to share this today.

Carrie went on to let her followers know that bad times do get better.

‘Everyone experiences difficult periods due to numerous different circumstances, and if today has been particularly tough for you, I wish better times come your way soon. Remember, you’re never on your own.’ She reassured.

Carrie’s post was soon inundated with comments from her celebrity friends.

Channel Seven star Larry Emdur expressed, “I truly admire you, Carrie. Your impact on countless others, including myself, is immense. I am always here for you, with warm regards xx.

‘You’re beloved because you’re real,’ wrote entertainment guru Richard Reid.

‘You’re doing a good thing xx,’ added TV veteran Angela Bishop.

Simultaneously, Kyly Clarke (previously WAG), model Megan Gale, and singer Tones and I each posted a red heart emoji as a sign of affection.

Star of Real Housewives of Sydney Sally Obermeder, along with Anna Heinrich from The Bachelor and comedian Merrick Watts, all showed their support as well.
