Canton’s Decentralized App Layer Launches, Backed by $1M+ Foundation Grant

New York, United States, July 28th, 2026, Chainwire

BitSafe now provides the tools developers need to build and launch decentralized finance (DeFi) applications on the Canton Network.

With over $1 million in funding from the Canton Foundation Development Fund, BitSafe has launched the public beta of Decentralization Manager. This open-source tool helps applications and organizations create reliable products by distributing control among several independent parties.

Canton Network is increasingly essential for organizations moving real-world assets and operations onto blockchains. To meet the strict requirements of these institutions – like detailed records and secure, shared control – teams previously had to independently create complex security and management systems. Decentralization Manager simplifies this by providing those tools as ready-made components, allowing developers to focus on building their applications instead of foundational infrastructure.

Decentralization Manager, recently reviewed for security by Quantstamp, expands what’s possible on the blockchain. It lets institutions keep using the network’s built-in privacy features while reducing risk by spreading out their operations.

As a crypto investor, I’m excited about tools that simplify things. Decentralization Manager seems to offer ready-made solutions for creating and securely holding tokens – basically, it handles the technical stuff so I can focus on building or investing in projects. Plus, it opens the door to even more possibilities beyond just token creation and storage.

  • Token issuance: Issuers can launch and govern Canton-native tokens, ranging from wrapped cryptoassets to stablecoins and RWAs.
  • Custody and multi-signature wallets: Teams can hold and transfer assets under shared, multi-party control, removing reliance on any single custodian.
  • Tokenized real-world assets and securities: Builders can bring real-world assets on-chain and govern them under distributed control.
  • DEXs, lending, and structured products: Institutions can launch institutional-grade financial applications with Decentralization Manager.

CBTC is the first digital asset built on Canton that isn’t native to the platform, and it’s also the first real-world example of how our Decentralization Manager works. Currently, the network operators supporting CBTC have already earned money from transaction fees. Now, Decentralization Manager expands this opportunity to the entire network. This makes it simpler for developers to find reliable network operators to power their applications, while those operators continue to earn a portion of Canton’s transaction fees.

According to Viv Diwakar, Head of the Canton Foundation, the success of blockchain technology for institutions relies on simplifying its development and implementation. BitSafe’s decision to make its Decentralization Manager publicly available provides developers with the necessary tools to build secure and private applications that distribute trust among various parties while still allowing institutions to maintain control. This contribution will bolster the Canton ecosystem and promote the expansion of digital assets and tokenized financial markets. The Canton Foundation is excited about BitSafe’s move and anticipates innovative new institutional applications being built on their platform.

Palladium Labs is the first company to announce they’re using Decentralization Manager, a tool allowing multiple parties to authorize actions within their system. According to Akshay Sinha, Cofounder & CTO of Palladium Labs, this feature – providing distributed trust and complete transparency – is essential for building reliable credit infrastructure like theirs (called Alpend). He added that implementing the Decentralization Manager was a simple choice because it benefits the entire Canton ecosystem.

Besides Palladium, several other key players – Nethermind, DSRV, and Finoa Consensus Services – have already adopted Decentralization Manager. Their involvement shows a broad commitment within the Canton ecosystem to using decentralized technology that protects data privacy, gives users more control, and improves system reliability.

The public beta is now available on the Canton Foundation’s GitHub, and we’re also accepting grant applications. Developers who need reliable node operators for their projects can contact BitSafe to be connected with trusted providers. For institutions wanting to create and manage tokens within Canton, BitSafe offers custom tokenization services.

Additional quotes from ecosystem partners:

According to Joonkyo Kim, CTO at DSRV, the CBTC Decentralized Party demonstrates Canton’s significant progress. The launch of the public beta for Decentralization Manager is a major advancement for the entire system. Kim’s team found it surprisingly easy to get started – deploying contracts only took one click. For applications currently relying on just one validator, this offers the simplest way to improve security and avoid potential issues caused by single points of failure.

We’ve been helping secure CBTC as an attestor since the beginning of BitSafe’s decentralized signing system, so we’ve seen how challenging it is to build trust across different operators in a live environment. Joining Decentralization Manager was surprisingly easy – the tools are user-friendly, and the BitSafe team was quick to resolve any issues and kept us informed throughout the process.

More and more organizations bringing tangible assets to the Canton network are looking for a system without a central authority, alongside the robust security and reliability their risk management teams require. Building this type of open and reusable infrastructure is a significant advancement for the entire network. – Mateusz Jędrzejewski, CIO, Nethermind

BitSafe’s new tool makes our existing systems more reliable by eliminating any single point of failure – a key requirement for institutions using Canton. We’re excited to continue working with BitSafe and expand our collaboration as more applications become part of the network, according to Daniel Schrader, Managing Director at Finoa Consensus Services.

About BitSafe

BitSafe is creating secure and private digital asset tools on the Canton Network. They were also responsible for bringing Bitcoin to Canton (as $CBTC). Their system uses multiple layers of security and shared control, removing any single point where things could go wrong. This allows businesses and developers to create trading platforms and build financial products that meet regulatory requirements within the network.
