Call of Duty H2M mod receives Cease and Desist one day before release
As a long-time fan who has followed the Call of Duty scene for years, it’s always heartwarming to see dedicated communities come together to create something amazing like the H2M mod. The passion and dedication put into this project were evident, and it was truly exciting to anticipate its launch.
The modification known as H2M, which seeks to incorporate classic Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 material into the Modern Warfare Remastered game, has been issued a Stop and Desist order by Activision.
A group of enthusiasts worked hard on developing a free add-on for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered called H2M, which aimed to recreate the original feel of Modern Warfare 2 within the remastered version. Regrettably, their efforts will not come to fruition as they’ve received a Cease and Desist notice.
One day before its official release, Activision halted the development of the mod. Unfortunately, the team cannot continue their work on it since Activision has decided to cease all activities related to the mod instantly due to their own demands.
H2M mod shut down through a Cease and Desist a day before launch
The launch for the Call of Duty H2M mod was set for August 16, 2024. On the eve of its release, on August 15, the mod’s official account shared this news.
Today, we’ve been instructed by Activision Publishing to halt all activities associated with the H2M-Mod project, via a Cease & Desist notice. As a result, we’re ceasing our work on this project right away and for good.
Following the enticing discount on Steam for the Modern Warfare Remastered, I jumped at the chance to snag it, alongside numerous other fans, eagerly anticipating the upcoming H2M mod launch. However, Activision Publishing’s Cease and Desist order quickly put a damper on our excitement.
Currently, those who have played less than two hours of Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam are seeking refunds. However, this move has left many members of the gaming community disgruntled, as this project was initially free and some suspect that the timing of the Cease and Desist for the HM2 mod, which came after the sale concluded, may not have been a mere coincidence.
Reactions to the H2M mod Cease and Desist news in the Call of Duty community
Enthusiasts ranging from professional gamers, affiliated with 10 esports teams, to casual gamers who eagerly await the H2M mod, were all left surprised by this recent announcement. Here are some of the responses we’ve gathered:
It has been suggested that Activision may be concerned that the H2M mod could overshadow the excitement for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Some people also believe that Activision was only interested in the profits from Modern Warfare Remastered sales. However, whatever their motivation, it is within their rights to issue a Cease and Desist notice.
As a gamer, it’s gut-wrenching to watch my hours of dedication and excitement vanish like a puff of smoke in the blink of an eye.
