Luxury car comfort is now available for your home office. Toyota Boshoku, the company that designs the interiors for Toyota’s high-end vehicles, has partnered with Itoki, a leading Japanese office furniture maker, to create a limited-edition desk chair. Inspired by the passenger seat of Toyota’s flagship Crown sedan, the chair brings the same comfortable design and luxurious feel of a car seat into the workspace. Priced around $3,500, this chair reflects a growing trend of car design influencing high-end home furnishings.

Turning a car seat into a comfortable, movable chair isn’t easy and requires significant engineering. Itoki and Toyota Boshoku teamed up to transform a Toyota Crown seat, keeping its strong, original construction while adding a five-spoke rolling base. The chair still uses the exact same motors and controls as the car seat, allowing users to adjust the height and tilt with the original switches. Plus, the seat’s built-in heating and cooling features work just like before, providing personalized temperature control for all-day comfort.

Providing power to a car seat when it’s not connected to a car’s electrical system required a clever solution. Instead of needing to be plugged into a wall, the seat has its own rechargeable battery that powers the motors and heating/cooling features. The designers also added a fun surprise: the classic metal seatbelt buckle now works as a hidden USB port to charge phones and other devices. The seat looks and feels just like the high-end interior of a Toyota Crown, with the same comfortable, perforated leather and supportive design.

Getting your hands on one of these unique items will be difficult and expensive. Only 70 will be made worldwide, and they’re exclusively available through “THE CROWN” stores in Japan as part of a special collection. Because so many fans and collectors are expected to want one, buyers will be chosen randomly in a lottery. This limited release strategy is similar to how exclusive items are sold in the streetwear world, turning what’s normally office equipment into a highly sought-after collectible.
